Alone

Ch. 23 : My heart still doing the cha-cha slide in my chest

"Wait what?" Alex said as we sat on the dock.

I wiped my tears again and showed him the note that I had crumpled in my pocket.

He read it slowly and I saw his face drop as he got to the part where my heart felt like it had been stabbed, then the part where I was just astonished.

My new best friend was actually my sister? Since when was my life a korean drama?

He put down the note and digested the information before finally speaking.

"At least you're friends with her." He said.

I hit his shoulder. "Yeah, but does she know? Does she even know that she's adopted? This is too much." I said laying on my back, staring at the twilight sky.

Alex laid next to me and held my hand. "You need to tell her. I mean if you were Riley, wouldn't you want to know?"

I thought about that for a few minutes. I guess I would like to know that I was adopted, and that one of my newest friends was actually my sister.

"Yeah, I guess." I said sitting up and getting up. Alex followed as we walked down the dock.

We decided that we would tell Riley tomorrow after school. I told Alex that I didn't want to be alone, so he agreed to being there with me when I told her.

And I have never had a slower day. I swear my chemistry teacher was talking in slow motion.

When the last bell rang, I sprang out of my seat and sprinted past everyone in the halls all the way to the parking lot.

Alex saw me and walked over to me, along with Riley, Aiden and Ryder.

"So didn't you say you wanted me to come over today?" Riley said as she slipped her phone in her back pocket.

"Yeah." I said, my heart doing dubstep in my chest.

"Okay, you wanna go in my car or..." She said.

I shook my head. "I'll ride with Alex."

"Can we come over too?" Aiden and Ryder asked with bright expressions.

"Ehh, I guess." I said walking over to Alex's car.

Aiden and Ryder piled into Aiden's sports car as Riley walked over to hers.

I got in Alex's car and pulled on my seatbelt, my heart still doing the cha-cha slide in my chest, causing my breathing to halter.

"It's gonna be fine Nova." He said putting his hand on top of mine.

"Alex, how do you know that?" I said turning to him. "You don't know how she's gonna react. She could be shocked, sad, angry, any of those!"

"Just think postitively. Besides, Aiden and Ryder will be there to lighten the mood."

When we got there, we all got out of our cars and walked to the front door. I had told my mom my plan too. She said it was fine if we came over today after school.

After I unlocked the door, we all walked into the living room. Ryder and Aiden sat on the couch and turned on the TV. I turned it off, getting weird looks from them. 

"I have to talk to Riley first."

They looked confused but agreed silently, leaning back into the couch.

"What about?" Riley said sitting down in the loveseat on the oppisite side of the coffee table.

I looked up at Alex, who was standing beside me.
