"Thanks Daddy for the ice cream, it was great!" Vanessa gave her dad another big innocent hug and she turned and ran up the stairs.
"Where have you been? We left the station two hours ago?"
"I enjoyed an ice cream with my daughter so that we could talk. Weren't you just telling me that you wanted me to spend more time with them?"
"Oh, sure Ice cream after she just destroyed her hair and was arrested for a stolen motorcycle! Once again you are successfully making me the bad guy!"
"I talked to her about that and I told her that she needed to be more helpful to you and stop giving you such a hard time. Her hair will grow out and it can always be recolored. I actually kind of like it, it's hip and new. She needs to have some sort of self-expression Brookie."
"Brookie, hunh? You never call me Brookie anymore so what now? There is always some string attached to your affection!"
"Ah Brookie, I don 't want to fight with you." Right and I can feel there is a "BUT" about to enter the conversation.
"But, we need to talk; I have some news to share with you."
"If it is about your new engagement I am not interested in hearing about it, go brag to someone other than the woman you ditched for your new younger version."
"I'm moving Brookie."
"Wait what did he just say, moving. "Moving? Moving where? To like a bigger house? Good it's about time you make room for the kids, because we need to talk. I need you to start taking them for your share of the time. I can't do this by myself anymore Elliott. Vanessa is constantly pushing my buttons, Max and Libby fight all the time. I am working extra hours to try to make the mortgage payment."
"No I am not just moving Brookie. I am moving away. I have been offered a promotion but I have to relocate to Boston."
"BOSTON!! Well how are you going to see the kids if you are in Boston? I don't need you in Boston I need you to help take care of your kids Elliott!"
"I can't help it, Brookie, and I will be home every so often to see Tonya, I can get the kids a few hours and once I am set up in Boston they can come stay with me for the summers."
"For the summers, so like in a few weeks?"
"Umm no I was thinking like next year."
"Next year? Next year? Great thank you for your help! So what you are trying to tell me is that you are going to be of no help with them for a year?"
"Brookie don't look at it like that."
"How else do you want me to look at it Elliott, and stop calling me Brookie. You lost that privilege when you left for you bimbo!"
"Come here Brookie," Elliott grabbed me up in a hug. Ugh if my night wasn't bad already. "You'll be fine, and look I will be getting a large pay raise. I will send you more money then you won't have to work so much."
I pushed him off of me, gross I felt like I just had slimy little bugs crawling on me. "Forget it Elliott I don't want your damn money. Go, go to Boston and be happy! Have a great time. I will manage with OUR children just fine. I have been this whole time." I walked over to the front door, opened it up and showed Mr. Stevens his way out.
"I'm sorry for you Brookie." He attempted to rub the side of my cheek. Oh his slick ways stopped working on me a long time ago. I took his hand away from my face. "Good night Elliott, go home to your Barbie Doll." With that I shut the door.
