I was awoken with a loud bang on my door. "BROOKLYN GET UP WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE FOR THE SHUTTLE!"
I opened my eyes to see Trent's naked body still twisted with mine. I reached to grab my phone from the night stand and could see I had multiple missed calls and texts from Shelly. Another Bang came from the other side of the door. "BROOKLYN ARE YOU OK IN THERE WE HAVE TO GET READY FOR THE SHUTTLE!" Oh my god we overslept. I jumped up out of bed, grabbed the blanket to wrap around me and took in my situation for a moment.
"I'M UP I WAS IN THE BATHROOM, I WILL MEET YOU IN THE MAIN LOBBY IN A FEW MOMENTS. " I yelled back through the door to Shell. Just then Trent rolled over and gave a small groan, he rubbed his eyes and looked over at me as I put my finger to my lips to shh him.
"ARE YOU SURE YOUR ALRIGHT! JUST OPEN THE DOOR."
"I CAN'T TOLD YOU I WAS IN THE SHOWER I AM DRIPPING WET AND NOT DRESSED. JUST MEET ME IN 5 IN THE LOBBY. CAN YOU ORDER ME A COFFEE PLEASE?"
"OK IF YOUR SURE YOUR OK." I waited a few seconds to make sure she wasn't at the door anymore and I fell on the bed next to Trent. He nuzzled up to me pulling me closer. "Oh no big boy we have flights to catch and your bags are still in your room." With that he jumped up off the bed. "Oh damn did we oversleep?"
"Yes but we still have time." I gathered up his clothes and threw them at him. He scurried to get dressed. I laughed as he feel over trying to get his socks and shoes on. He gave me a kiss "I'll see you in the lobby" and was out the door.
That was close. I thought for sure Shelly was going to bust us. I am a grown woman and I was afraid of being busted. Pathetic! I guess I was more just not wanting to hear Shelly's shit the whole flight home.
I tossed my hair in a messy bun, slipped on my sandals and grabbed my bags. I felt like everyone knew what I had done the night before. I was smiling from ear to ear. I was so giddy it was kind of gross.
I got to the lobby and spotted Shell. She was passionately complaining to Ed. I could tell by her body language she was not happy. I walked over as calmly as I could. "What is the hurry? We still have fifteen minutes until the shuttle arrives? Did you get my coffee?"
Shell handed me my cup looking me up and down cooly, like she could tell there was something different about me. I shook it off and sipped my coffee. I thought I would intercept the next prying question I knew she was about to ask. "Man, I got so much work done last night. We have three new clients coming in on Monday for a consultation. The Liberman's want us to redo their entire mother in law quarters. You should see it, it's bigger than mine and Elliotts first apartment. This is going to be a good one for us. And they said the magical words. They have no limit on budget and only want the best!"
As I was trying to keep my cool so that she didn't get suspicious Trent came bursting into the lobby a clear hot mess. I almost choked on my coffee. This did not go without notice from Shell or Ed either. "Man, you look like you had either a great night or a rough night?" Ed was patting him on the back like they were back in college and his buddy just scored. This did not help Shelly and her suspicions.
"I was up late". He paused and looked at me to see what my cue was on how to answer. I lowered my gaze from him and continued to sip my coffee. "Decided to go back to the bar and guess I just can't drink like I used to."
She wasn't buying it and well neither was I really. But before anyone could say anything Ed grabbed up their bags "Hey the shuttle is here." I rolled my suitcase behind me falling a few steps behind them to be able to talk to Trent. "Umm, you look like a mess, what happened we packed yesterday?"
"Well after I got back to the room and saw you left I may have gotten a bit angry and unpacked." I giggled till I snorted a bit. Shell just kept a watchful eye on us. Trent gave me a nudge and a smile.
We piled into the shuttle and just as I went to sit next to him Shell pushed between us. "Trent, can you sit in the back with Ed, I get awful car sick and don't want to be in the third row Thanks sweetheart?"
"Of course." As he climbed in back I could see a bit of disappointment come across his face. This set the mood for the entire ride to the airport. Shell just went on and on about how great it will be to get back to real life.
Not much changed in the airport, she made sure to keep us at a distance. Like a parent chaperoning two kids on a date. We checked out bags and got our boarding passes. Thank goodness for small miracles as we got split up at security. I reached my hand behind my back and could feel Trent entwine his fingers into mine.
We got through security and Shelly came to a stop. "Well I guess this is where we part." She leaned in to give Trent a fake hug, "I am so glad you were able to be there for us this past week."
"Well you are welcome, but I won't depart from you until we get to LA." She pulled herself back from her fake hug. "Oh I thought you were on a different flight?"
"I changed my flight the other day. Thought it would be great to spend more time together. "
"Well isn't that just splendid. Eleven more hours of your company." Even Ed could pick up that Shell was being sarcastic. "Stop now!" I heard him whisper to her. She rolled her eyes and he led her down to the gate. Trent and I snuck off to get something to eat and have a few minutes to ourselves. I know people were looking at us as we were acting like teenagers in love. We enjoyed our breakfast and headed to the gate.
I laid my head on his shoulder and waited for them to call boarding. I was sad that I would have to be on a long flight without Trent sitting next to me. But with some luck the seat next to me stayed empty after all the passengers boarded and he moved up to be next to me. Shelly leaned over the seat and glared at him. "I don't think you are supposed to change seats in case of an emergency." Ed pulled her back down in the seat and I would hear them whisper fighting. I didn't care though. I had 11 more hours to feel Trent's touch and I was going to enjoy it.
It was such a peaceful flight. I laid with my head on his shoulder. We ate our provided meals together and watched old movies on the screen. We didn't talk much throughout the flight, we just enjoyed each other.
I got a sinking feeling in my stomach when they announced we were on our final descent into LA. Then I could feel warm tears fighting their way down my face when the landing gear touched down. I felt his hand tighten around mine and I knew he was thinking the same thing.
He held my hand tightly in his not letting go well as we deboarded the plane. Up the ramp and into the gate area. We walked as slow as we could into the open area. "How long is your layover?" That was all he spoke for the moment. " An hour and a half. How long is yours?"
"About three hours. Do you want me to stay with you at your gate until you board?"
"Yes please." We walked hand in hand to my next gate and sat quietly on the bench. Again I placed my head on his shoulder and he just held my hand tight in his.
It was the shortest hour of my life when they started calling for first class passengers to board. Ed and Shell got up to walk over to the ramp. I stood up and looked at Trent with tears in my eyes. "I guess we have to say goodbye."
He wiped my tears away, "I will text you when I land. I love you Brooklyn, this isn't goodbye. Not like last time. We will see each other again." With that he cupped my face in his hands one last time and gave me the most loving and gentle kiss.
I picked up my carry on and headed down the ramp. Half full of tears and half full of love. I looked back one last time and he was still standing there. I stepped onto the plane, took a deep breath and prepared to go back to my real life.
