I woke up the next morning feeling pretty great. I grabbed a shower, did my hair and make up, put on my little sundress Shelly picked out for me. I had a different confidence about myself.

We had a lot to do today since the wedding was tomorrow. Shell and I still needed shoes. We had rehearsal with the officiant and we had to meet with the photographer. I walked over to the bed, gave Shelly a little shake. "Wake up sleepy head. Time to start the day." She rolled over. "What are you wearing." She said with a chuckle. "I thought you said not over your dead body when we picked it out."

"When you picked it out you mean." I tugged it down a little. "It's comfortable, still not sure if it's too short."

She sat up on the side of the bed and rubbed her eyes. "It makes your legs look sexy."

"So one more night and you get this whole bungalow to yourself. Bet you'll be glad to sprawl out in the bed?"

I started picking up the room a little, Shelly was never known for being neat. I gathered up some of her clothes to put in one pile so it would be easier for her to pack. I wonder to myself "Where's Trent going if you are moving over with Ed?"

Before I realized I had said it out loud, she popped her head out the door, her toothbrush half hanging out of her mouth. "He's in the one that was for Ray and Gretchen." She bobbed her head back into the bathroom. Then came right back out. Hands on her hips, only in shorts and a bra. Her eyes were big with surprise. "Wait am I missing something here."

"No, why would you think that? I was just curious."

"Brooklyn Elizabeth what aren't you telling me? "

"Nothing, I don't know what you're talking about."

"Well you have a grin ear to ear since I woke up. You have curls in your hair, makeup, hot dress. What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything. I came back to the room and went for a swim that's all." I tried to correct my ear to ear grin, but I think I was failing. "Swimming till three in the morning? I woke up when you came to the door, not alone. I heard two voices."

"Honestly I didn't do anything, we talked all night about stuff. I found out that girl lied all those years ago. She wasn't pregnant by Trent, he never even slept with her. He was in basic training when she got pregnant." She gave me a not so sure look.

"What a tramp bitch." Shelly interjects with her usual tasteful opinion. "I hate dumb girls like that."

"He told me that he had asked my dad to marry me. That's why he went into the army, to prove to my dad he could take care of me."

"Now that one I believe."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Shortly after you came home from your dads I overheard him talking with mom on the phone. He was telling mom about how he couldn't believe this had happened, that he thought the Army would whip someone in shape to be able to marry you."

Why would my dad keep this from me? If he would have told me then I don't know if things would have been the same. I probably would have contacted Trent for more of an explanation. Then again I wouldn't have the family I do. It was better to not ponder on the what ifs. Shelly was back in the bathroom. I wanted to change the subject, I wasn't prepared to share this with her yet because I knew it would be a big deal. But I wasn't ready to deal with the fact that almost everyone in my life knew about the marriage proposal and him being in the Army. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about that. "Really Shell nothing happened, major anyway."
