The flight to Fiji was not fun at all. The first flight was ok. We had a brief layover in Detroit.. Then from there we flew into Dallas. I spent that flight with Shelly using hand signals to point out which guys she thought were my type. "But why? He is adorable." She would mouth over to me; "Because I am not his type." I would mouth back over to her. Being two isles apart but still on the end row was making it hard for her to talk to me, which was making it hard for me to rest and relax. When we landed in Dallas she started again.

"He wasn't bad looking. You have to stop being picky about your type."

"No, Shell, I am pretty sure I wasn't his type."

"How do you know that?"

"Because he spent most of the flight going through his phone showing me pictures of his husband and two kids. They did have a gorgeous wedding on a cruise ship."

"No, you're just saying that because your goal is to grow old and be a cat lady."

"Yes, actually you finally get it, I do not want a relationship with anyone, but seriously he had a beautiful family. His son is the pitcher of his baseball team too."

"NOPE!" She turned around and put her finger in my face. "You are breaking the FIJI rules. No talking about kids."

"I wasn't talking about mine."

"Hey we are going to be in paradise for two weeks, we'll find you a man and a good one too."

"Shell babe didn't you hear her? She doesn't want a man, she wants cats."

"Shut up Ed, she wasn't being serious about wanting cats. Were you Brooklyn?"

"Yes, very. So please do me a favor, if you want me to have a good time and relax. Let me be alone about a relationship."

"Ok, I promise I will not fix you up with anyone well we are there, but can I at least point out cute ones, since I can't look any more?'

"Hey!"

"Sorry, honey, you know for research." She grabbed Ed's cheeks and gave him a kiss. "You're the only kitty cat for me."

"Come on, they're calling us to board."

"Yeah, baby! Fiji, here we come." She was so excited, I wasn't sure if she was excited about the marriage or the beach more but she was sure excited. I had a feeling she was going to do this at each layover. Our next stop was L.A. though it was another short sweet stop.

After we took off out of Los Angeles we only had one stop left and that was Fiji. This flight was much more peaceful. To Shelly's dismay we were in the same aisle but at least five rows apart and she couldn't spend the flight sitting backward leaning over her seat. I was glad to because ten straight hours of her pointing out men would have pushed me over the edge. I would have had to spend my trip in the psych hospital.

I couldn't believe I was headed to Fiji. Something in my heart was telling me that after all my doubts about going on this trip, it was going to be worth it. I felt like even though they were the one's getting married, I somehow was the one that was off to start a new life. Something just felt really different for me. I turned on my daughter's MP3 player which she never used anymore, put on the headphones, pulled my airline-provided blanket over my shoulders and settled in for some rest.

I walked into the living room and I could see him standing there, I was nervous that was for sure. This was a big step in my life.

"Trent, can I ahh talk to you for a minute."

"Sure Brooke, what's up?"

"I... I dunno just wanted to ask you how your skate session went yesterday."
