The rest of the evening was pretty peaceful. Shelly went to hang out with Ed, going on and on about her new dress. She kept teasing him that he couldn't see it, but did let it slip that she couldn't believe that she of all people was wearing a white dress. Ed just told her that virtuous didn't mean a virgin, and that she deserved to wear white because she had a virtuous heart. I couldn't help but to be a little envious of Shell's relationship with Ed. He was truly an amazing man.

After another swim, minus the liquor I curled up on the lounge chair with my tablet to enjoy a book. I couldn't remember the last time I read a good book and actually paid attention to it. I had to admit I was enjoying myself, but I was missing the kids so badly. I thought about calling dad until I remembered that it was like one in the morning there.

I didn't make it far in my book before my eyes got tired. I set my tablet down and pulled the blanket up around my shoulders. It wasn't cold but it was comfy. I just leaned my head back and took in the sun setting over the ocean. It was the most breathtaking thing I had ever seen. The sky looked like it was on fire, All the blue was replaced with oranges that couldn't be described by words. The palm trees were mere black silhouettes. At some point I drifted off to sleep.

There was a knock at my door. Before I got down the stairs, dad was standing there staring at Trent. Oh, god what was he doing here? My dad was not happy. But I'm eighteen now and leaving for college in the fall. What could he possibly do? Ground me? "Brooklyn, you have company."

"Thank you daddy." I didn't want to rub in his face that he no longer could keep me and Trent apart. So I slowly walked past him, waited till we got outside and ran to jump in Trents arms. It feels so good to be with him again. A school year was so hard to go without seeing him.

"Hey Brooke." He wrapped his arms around me and we just stood there hugging. Time passed by like it was in slow motion. I stepped back out of his embrace and we just looked at each other. An awkward silence set in. I took in the sight of him. He was different, he was a lot different. He had short hair now, and he was really muscular. "Sorry I didn't get to see you when you first got here."

"It's ok I only got here a few days ago." After the summer we had last year I was surprised that he wasn't at my door waiting for me, but I guess my dad still makes him nervous.

"Come on, let's go, I want to show you something." Trent had an SUV now, it was a pretty badass looking jeep. It was the perfect warm day and he had the top off. I ran in, grabbed my shoes and told dad I would be back later. I could tell in his voice he was not happy I was leaving with Trent. "You may be eighteen now but I still expect you home by eleven, it's called respect." He called after me.

I hopped in the Jeep with Trent, and he took off down my driveway. The radio was blasting and the wind was in my hair. Shelly was wrong this was going to be another great summer with him. She couldn't understand why if we were so close why he didn't come to my graduation when I invited him, but I knew. He wasn't comfortable with my dad.

"I missed you Brooke, did you have a good year?"

"Yeah it went by pretty fast. Graduation was cool." He looked away and his expression changed. "About that I'm really sorry I couldn't come I want to, I just couldn't get..."

"It's cool", I cut him off. I didn't want to hear some excuse why he didn't make it. I just wanted to enjoy my time with him before I started college. "How are things for you?" I ask, hoping to change the subject.

"They're good." We proceeded with small talk for a while, I asked him how everyone was here. Told him that I had talked to Krissy, and that she was going to visit as soon as she got home from the beach. I couldn't believe he didn't know about Hunter proposing to her on their graduation. I kind of thought him and Hunter became really close friends. Last summer the four of us were practically inseparable. After about twenty minutes of driving I finally asked him where we were going.
