I could see the light poking it's way through the windows. Then I heard a low groan, I try to open my eyes and couldn't. Oh man I felt like shit, and that sun was like ninja stars piercing my eyes. I hear that groan again and Shelly rolled over in bed. "Why are you making noise?"
"I'm not making noise, you're making noise." That wasn't my cell phone going off. She needed to answer it quickly or it was going out the door into the pool. "Shell it's your stupid ringtone. I hate that ringtone." I buried my head under the pillows. "Yeah me too, it is pretty stupid loud.
"I feel like shit!" Shell says pulling the blankets back over her head. "Why did you let me get that drunk?"
"I didn't force it on you. I remember someone saying that we were partying like it was 1999 again! At least I think I remember." She made a noise in response that sounded like a laugh.
"Don't make me laugh, it hurts my head. I am going back to sleep." Just then her cell went off again. "Ok, unanimous vote I am changing that ringtone."
"Thank god, I have only been asking for months."
"Oh, it's Ed. He said him and Trent have finished breakfast and we are free to head up."
"Why do we need to know they ate?"
"Because he can't see me before the wedding!" She smacked me with her pillow. Then at the same time we said "OUCH!" Man our head hurt.
I wasn't exactly sure how I managed to get out of bed, but the hot shower felt nice. Well I dressed Shelly took her shower. "You know I thought a lot about what you said last night." I hollered into the bathroom. "What do you mean?"
"About not wanting me to get hurt. I can't lie and tell you a big part of me wants to just see what it's like now that we are adults. An even bigger part of me feels like jipped." She came out of the bathroom. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, Shell in yoga pants. I couldn't disagree though I was glad the resort had laundry services. I myself didn't feel like dressing up right now either. "How do you feel jipped?"
"Well for years I thought that Trent and I were, I dunno like soul mates. If you believe in that kind of thing. Then I saw that Madison girl and it really took something from me. Not just did it take Trent from me, but it took my faith in love."
"I know, but what is a week going to do but get your hopes up? I understand why you have to do this, but I just don't know. You live miles apart, even a long distance relationship isn't possible."
"I know, and a small part of me wants to be the responsible adult and keep my distance. I can't fight this feeling though that if I just see what happens with him, maybe I will be able to break down those walls I've had for years."
"Well at least you can brush your cobwebs off!" Shelly was amused clearly by her own statement. I however was not. "I am not talking about sex. I am not planning on sleeping with him. But maybe as a grown ass man he can answer some of my questions."
"No sex, just hanging out? Brooklyn you have seen him for three days and you have already made out like teenagers twice."
"We didn't makeout, he kissed me and I slapped him. I kissed him at the pool."
"Well sounds like you're the one that's hot and cold not him. I mean shit who slaps the love of their life for kissing them, when they've waited over sixteen years for that."
"Someone who thought he was married." Just then there was a knock at the door. When I opened it there was a kid with a basket in his hands. I could tell he was resort staff, but he looked no older than Max. "I am looking for Ms. Stevens."
