There's Never a Good Time to Almost Die

Does the title seem familiar? It's what Sophie said in Legacy (if you've read KOTLC) and Keefe said someone had to get it embroidered on a tunic so I made it a title! Part of the plot's credits go to

More about it when I finish the next to parts. (Ideas also from @lEmmaRose2l )

I flail around frantically, hitting something hard. Wilson clings onto my sleeve, trying not to get washed away. I hear muffled voices of my friends from the boat as I crash into the sea.

Coughing, I swim upwards, only to meet another wave and another. I've got to get up sometime soon. I'm running low on oxygen. After five more attempts, I start to loose consciousness. My eyelids slowly closes.

Jax's P.O.V.

I watch in horror as the wave crashes down on Gilly. The next thing I know, I'm screaming and rushing to the railings, looking for a glimpse of Gilly. Nothing.

Even Jocelyn is worried. She's using everything in her power to keep the boat from moving so we don't drift away from Gilly.

"ROPE! SOMEONE PASS ME A ROPE!" I yell, my voice hoarse from all the screaming.

"What for?" Kayla yells, growing more frantic by the second.

"I'm going to jump." I reply, "Now HURRY!"

"What? No!" Maxine charges over from where she's looking. "You are not, in any circumstance, jumping overboard."

I open my mouth to protest.

"No." Maxine glares, it's the first time I've ever seen her act this way. "I am not gonna risk another friend. We are all gonna stay on this ship and continue to search. And once the storm clears, we'll go in and find Gilly."

"But--"

"This is not a suggestion." Maxine orders.

"Gilly--" I try again.

"No." Maxine says firmly. Then she looks up, "Oh look! The sky's already clearing!"

While she's distracted, I lunge, only to feel two big hand grab onto me a second later.

"Kayla! Take Jax downstairs and put him on ship arrest." Maxine yells.

Kayla flies over, she looks ready to start crying.

She nods silently and drags me downstairs.

"No! I can't! Gilly! She needs our help!" I pull away.

Jocelyn appears in the doorway, blocking my escape. She looks... guilty. And....... is that sadness?

"You aren't going anywhere on my watch." She growls, then nods to Kayla. "You go up, I'll watch him."

She uses her magic to grab onto me. I kick and scream, refusing to make things easy.

"LET ME GO!" I screech. "I NEED TO HELP! I NEED TO--"

"NO YOU DON'T. ALL YOU'LL END UP DOING IS SOMETHING STUPID THAT WOULD PROBABLY HURT YOURSELF AND MAKE THINGS WORSE." Jocelyn yells back.

Her words shock me into silence. Just for a second.

"But you have to let me go help! I need to! I have to!" I cry frantically.

Kayla comes downstairs, "We're doing night shifts."

Jocelyn nods grimly, "You sleep first, I'll watch him."

Kayla doesn't argue and goes into the girls' cabin. Maxine joins her a couple minutes later.

Jocelyn straps me to a chair in the small dining room. She sits across from me, her arms crossed and her face expressionless.

I keep on screaming until I eventually fall asleep.

Gilly's P.O.V.

I open my eyes. The ship, my friends.... I sit up, I'm on an island in the middle of nowhere.

"Hey, you're up!" a voice calls from behind me.

I whip my head around and find Hayley, carrying an open coconut with a straw in it.

"Hayley? How? What? Why? When?"

"I found you in the ocean and took you here, last night. And, you really don't know why?" she replies.

"I gotta let the others know I'm safe." I say.

"Yeah, I've already done that. I've sent a snail mail. Not sure if they can receive it on sea but if they can't, the snail agreed to give it to a dolphin that helps with mail."

"Thanks." I look around. There's a hammock tied to two palm trees and an umbrella made of palm leaves.

"Want a drink?" Hayley asks casually.

"Sure... what do you have?" I ask, lighting up already.

"All the tropical types."

"I think maybe a coconut smoothie?" I try.

"Coming right up!" Hayley grabs another coconut and in a couple minutes, hands me a coconut with a straw. "Enjoy! I let them know how to get here, so I guess we just wait."

"Have anything for Wilson?" Wilson scampers up to me, squeaking a lot of complaints. "What? How if it my fault you nearly drowned?" *squeaks* "Yes, I'll ask Hayley if she has some bread or cookies." *squeaks* "You are such a demanding mouse." I turn to Hayley, "Wilson wants a hammock and he won't let me make it cause he complains that mine is too lumpy. He says he likes yours."

Hayley laughs. "Alright."

Jax's P.O.V.

Maxine is screaming. I watch in horror as the wave swallows Gilly. Kayla drags me downstairs. I scream and pull against her. She forces me down onto a chair.

"Gilly'll come back. She's smart. She'll know what to do."

Just then Maxine bursts in sobbing. "A large tree branch fell from somewhere, and-a-a-a-and it hit Gilly. I-i-i-i-i-i-it fell on top of her and pushed her down into the--" she bursts into tears again.

I jump up. "WHAT? NO!" I run into my cabin, burying myself under my covers, this is all my fault. I should've been there to help. I should've--

"JAX!" I blink. It was just a dream. I sigh in relief. Ollie is standing over me. "It's your turn to watch."

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's it. Do you like it? I couldn't think of a good cliffhanger so this is how it ended. You are sooooooooooooo lucky that
