This is based on an assignment I wrote a couple of weeks ago that has absolutely no relation to this story at all. I have to add so many things to make it make sense so I hope it goes well *fingers crossed*
Gilly's P.O.V.
"So, Raz suggested that Father take me with him for this year's meeting since I should learn how to manage these things, and Raz said she already took care of the school stuff for me so I can go," Jax tells me.
"Wait, so you're going to a meeting outside of Enchantsia?" I ask.
"Yup, it's kinda weird. I don't think I've been anywhere outside Enchantsia," Jax says.
"Not unless, going up counts," I remind him.
Jax grins, "Oh yeah, that was an experience I'd rather not live through again."
"Neither would I." I agree, "So when are you leaving?"
"In an hour."
"Then why are you here? Shouldn't you be getting ready?"
"Done already. Oh, I just remembered, Raz wants me to tell you that there's going to be a ball tomorrow and we all have to go."
"I know," I sulk, "But how are you gonna attend if you're gone? Unless you get to skip..."
"I'll be back by tonight, so stop plotting," Jax says.
I pout, I was hoping I could find a way to get out of it. "Well, it's not like I have anything fancy here, so..." I look at him hopefully, maybe he could make an excuse for me so I could get out of it.
"That's why everyone is gonna be sent home tomorrow, they can find something or get something then. The ball is in the evening anyway."
I groan, "They're really determined to not let me get away with it are they."
Jax laughs, "Quite possibly, I'm sure everyone knows your hatred of anything fancy."
I jab him with my elbow. He's not completely wrong, though, I have learned to respect royals. To a degree.
"Jax!"
I turn and see Raz waving at Jax.
"Come on, Jax! You have to go!"
Jax looks at me, "Well, I'll see you tomorrow then."
"Yup, bye." I wave as he runs over to Raz. Now that Jax is gone, things are pretty dull. I wander around the school, having nothing to do. Maxine and AG are working on an assignment from Professor Sebastian, Jocelyn is sick with a bad fever so I couldn't bug her if I wanted to - apparently, she had caught it from Harlow, who is still sick as well, Ollie's gone off treasure hunting with Blackbeard, and Kayla has something to do with her family.
I head back to my room, maybe Anna's free.
"Gilly," Anna calls as I open the door, "Look!" She hands me a HEA scroll. "They're asking for volunteers to test the new transport. It appears that all the workers who were going to test it out caught the flu and the rest are terrified of heights."
"So, anyone can volunteer?" I ask.
"Not anyone," Anna tells me, "They have requirements." She points to where the requirement list is.
I scan over it, nothing too hard, I'm fully capable of everything on it. "Maybe I should go."
"I don't know, Gilly. We don't know if it's safe." Anna says skeptically.
"I know, but I can handle myself. After Alva and..." I trail off, it's a bit of a touchy subject. "After all that, this should be a piece of cake."
Anna sighs, "I guess there's no stopping you."
I smile, "I'll be off then! Later!"
I take the scroll and follow the directions to where the construction site is. There's only one other person there. A girl with pale blonde hair, wearing a light blue dress. Similar to my uniform, but more fancy. A noble or royal I suppose. She turns around. I'm hit with a slight sense of familiarity.
The girl smiles, "Hi!"
I smile awkwardly, I have no idea who she is and why she's saying hi to me.
"Don't you remember me?" the girl laughs, "We met at Gnome-olia bakery!"
It finally clicks, the girl who sent us all the bread! My first friend - sorta, we didn't really know each other but she considered us friends.
"Oh! Devin Nile, right?"
"Yup! And you're Gilly Cobbler?"
"Yeah, what are you here for? That?" I point at the pod hanging in mid-air, I doubt she's actually here for that but then again, she's a decent royal - one that I actually like, other than Jax - so who knows?
Devin nods, "You?"
"Same."
She laughs, "Who would've thought the next time we saw each other would be in front of a floating pod?"
"Especially one that hasn't been tested for safety." I agree, "Not something I would expect most royals to do." Except Jax.
"Well, I guess you can say I'm not like most. Quite the opposite actually, I don't understand why we have to wear these fancy dresses when pants and a shirt would be so much easier. And as for heels, I can't even count the times they've gotten in my way."
I'm startled. That I did not expect. "I know right? And what use would a curtsy be?"
"You won't believe the stuff they teach us at Royal Academy," Devin tells me.
"I know! My best friend went there for a bit before dropping out, and it sounds worse than listening to a speech on politics!"
"Excuse me," a gruff voice interrupts, "Are you here to volunteer?"
"Oh, yes," Devin responds.
"Both of you?"
"Yes," I say.
The man grunts, then turns around and walks toward what looks like a train station. "Follow me then."
He leads us into a large waiting room, and up a spiraling staircase. At the top, there's what looks like a cross between a ziplining platform and a dock. Right at the very edge of the ledge is a giant, silver pod, glistening in the sunlight.
"It's been double-checked for safety precautions?" Devin asks the man.
"Double-checked, triple-checked, however many times you want it-checked."
I step into the pod, holding onto the walls to steady myself. Devin is close behind me.
"I have to stay back and handle the controls," the man tells us, "You'll be alone. Alright with you?"
"Yeah, no problem." I shrug.
"Alright," he closes the door of the pod. Through the window, I see him gently tug at the cables above - probably making sure it's stable - before heading inside.
I'm sorry but my brain is being uncooperative this week and I haven't come up with a lot. I hope it's not writer's block because I could reaaaally go without it right now, I'm finally kinda fixing my updating schedule but I feel like it's gonna get messed up soon ;-; Sorry for the short chapter, I'll try to make it better for the next.
