Meredith and Derek stayed in the bath for a bit longer as Meredith's body soon relaxed at the warm water and the comfort of Derek, Meredith's body still ached from all the throwing up but it didn't hurt as much as it did before. Derek sat behind her as he felt her small body relax into his strong arms as he held his arms around her, he gently rubbed his wet palm along her belly that cheek as now I small bump, hoping it would soothe her a bit. he didn't want her to be in pain he knew pregnancy would hurt but he thought it would be more so back pain and morning sickness, but her body was small so it would be a lot on her body.

After they were finished taking a bath he helped her out of the water and dried themselves off, Derek handed Meredith one of his button-up shirts to wear as he put on a pair of boxers they laid back in bed as Meredith cuddled into his side.

"The ultrasound is today" she whispered

"What time?"

"It's in three hours"

"Okay we'll get ready soon then" he whispered kissing her head.

They stayed in bed for a few more hours as Derek stayed awake and Meredith fell back asleep, Derek wasn't sure if Meredith would want breakfast or not so he waited until she woke up. He felt Meredith turn so her face was pressed into his chest "do you want breakfast?" He whispered in her ear "No, my stomach still hurts" she groaned and went back to sleep.

it was finally time to go to the ultrasound, Meredith and Derek got dressed into someday clothes a coat with boots and gloves and then got into the car while Derek drove them to the hospital, they got out of the car and went into the hospital and waited in the waiting room.

"Meredith Shepherd" they heard one of the nurses call her name and they followed her into a room. "Okay Meredith just put this on for me and we'll get started," she said as she handed Meredith a gown and left the room, Meredith got dressed out of her day clothes and into the gown and waited on the table for the doctor to come. The doctor knocked on the door before entering the room, he introduced himself and got started "this will be a little cold" the doctor said as he squeezed the gel on her belly before moving the wand around and looking at the screen.

Meredith squeezed Derek's hand tightly in hers as she became anxious Derek looked at her face to see a worried look on her face as she stared at the screen "everything will be okay" he whispered before kissing the side of her head

"There it is!" The doctor smiled as he found the baby, Meredith and Derek looked at the screen as their hearts warmed at the sight of the baby. Meredith tears started to well up "it-its looks like a human" she whispered "well I would hope so" Derek said sarcastically "no-I just thought it wouldn't look like a baby quite yet" she whispered as she held her hand over her mouth "it looks that you are 12 weeks far along, I could tell you the gender if you'd like, this baby makes it very clear as to what it is" the doctor smiled "so early on?" Derek asked "yes, sometimes we can see it at 12 weeks and other pregnancies we usually can tell around 18 to 21 weeks," the doctor said, "do we wanna know the gender?" Meredith asked as she looked up at Derek "do you?" He asked her "yea, I'm okay with knowing" "I don't want to know, I want to wait" Derek said "okay, I'll write it down in an envelope for you" the doctor smiled and left the room.

When the doctor left the room Meredith sighed and laid her head back "you okay?" Derek asked her as he held her hand "yea, I'm just relieved that the baby's okay" she breathed as her face started to turn pink "breathe Mer" he said as he caressed her cheek with his thumb while still holding her hand in his other one, she took a few deep breaths as her breathing steadied and her face went back to normal. "Everything alright?" The doctor asked as he walked back into the room with the envelope "yea, just some breathing troubles" Derek smiled a bit as he helped Meredith sit up "does that happen a lot? The breathing troubles?" He asked but it seemed Meredith didn't want to talk so Derek answered for her "yes sometimes, but she does have asthma" Derek told the doctor "and you use an inhaler for that?" He asked as Meredith nodded her head "can she still use an inhaler while she's pregnant?" "Yes, the inhaler prevents asthma attacks and those aren't good for the baby," the doctor said as he handed Meredith the envelope "thank you" Meredith whispered, "well I'll see you guys in a few weeks?"
"Yes" "all alright, I'll let you get changed into your day clothes and then sign some papers and your all set to leave," the doctor said and left the room, Meredith took off the gown and dressed into her clothes and left the room. She signed the papers and put the envelope in her purse and they left out to the car, they got into the car and Derek started driving back home.

While they were driving in comfortable silence Meredith spoke "have you told your family?" She asked as she shivered and pulled her sleeves over her glove covered hands "No, I wanted to wait until you wanted to" he said turning up the heat a bit as he noticed she was cold "you can tell them if you want I just don't want them making a big deal out of it" she said "that might be a little hard for them, they make everything a big deal" he smiled "especially Nancy, she hates me" Meredith mumbled "she doesn't hate you" Derek said back "well she doesn't like me either" "she's just not used to new people in the family" he sighed "Derek, we've been married for five years and have been together for eight, I don't think I'm that new anymore" she rolled her eyes "you're new to me" he smirked "I don't even know what that means" she sighed as she pulled her coat tighter on her "are you still cold? that coats huge on you" he said as he watched her shiver "it's just a little cold" "try buttoning your coat" he suggested as she then button her coat "better?" "A little".

They drove back home and when they arrived there was an odd-looking car parked outside the gates, Derek made a confused look before telling Meredith to stay in the car while he got out and went to go ask the guards what was going on. After a few minutes, Derek came back inside the car without saying anything and drove through the gates and parked out front of the house, he got out of the car and went around to Meredith's side and opened her door for her. "What was that about?" She asked him but he didn't reply and led her in the house with this hand on the small of her back.
