DEREK SHEPHERD

soon after Meredith had finished breastfeeding she held him in her arms, gently bouncing him. I had Meredith my mother was coming soon along with my father and my sisters would probably be calling or be popping in unannounced.

I could tell she was getting tired because she had a hard time keeping her eyes open.

I walked over to her and carefully took Greyson from her arms.

"What are you doing?" She asked looking up at me.

"Close your eyes, you still tired," I told her.

"No, I wanna hold him"

"Mere-"

"I wanna hold him, Derek," she said with tears forming in her eyes.

I looked at the baby then at her before telling her to lie down, she laid down and I handed her Greyson, she pulled him close to her as he pushed his face into her neck as she closed her eyes.

They both laid there comfortably, she was comforted by him and he was comforted by her. I went and sat on the chair that was in the room while Meredith and Greyson napped.

after about an hour Meredith woke up and sat up with Greyson in her arms, he started crying. she untied her gown and let him latch on. after she finished feeding him she gently laid him down on the bed so she could tie her gown.

Meredith picked him back up after she finished with her gown, she laid down onto the bed holding him and closing her eyes.

after about twenty minutes I saw my mother and father walk into the room, my mom was dragging my dad by the arm and whispering things to him.

"Hi, Derek," my mother said walking in without even looking at me and going to Meredith and hugging her and thanking her for giving her another grandchild.

"you couldn't have waited a bit to tell us about the baby? I was asleep" my dad whispered to me.

"I did wait, your lucky I didn't call you when she had surgery," I said back.

"surgery?" my mother asked while holding the baby.

"I had a C-section" Meredith answered.

"an emergency C-section?"

"No, I wanted a C-section, I didn't want to risk having a stillbirth"

"that's a good reason, you wouldn't want to lose this little boy" she cooed to the baby.

"you were right Derek he is very small, and you were a big baby when you were born," my mom said looking at me.

"Meredith was very small when she was born" a voice from the door, I looked over and Meredith's mom standing by the door.

"Hello, Meredith" Ellis smiled as she walked over to Meredith and kissed the top of her head.

"Hi, mom," she said back, she sounded a little scared.

"Thank you for calling me when you went into labour, we were waiting a while but I'm glad he's healthy" she smiled.

"you called your mother when you went into labour?" I asked her surprised.

"yea," she said shyly looking away from me.

I couldn't really be mad at her, it's her mother and she wanted to call her mom when she went into labour it's normal. I just didn't know she was still talking to Ellis after what happened.

"What's his name?" My mother asked while Ellis continued to look at Meredith and no one else.

"Greyson Christopher Shepherd" Meredith said smiling.

"Thank goodness he has my name, I thought I came here for nothing," My dad said earning a glare from my mom as everyone else laughed.

"I'm glad you kept the grey name somewhere" Ellis smiled hugging Meredith by the shoulder.

after everyone held the baby visiting hours were over, Meredith laid Greyson down in the small crib after he had fallen asleep. she laid down herself to get some sleep because she was exhausted from the people having a baby and she needed to rest from the surgery.

"Meredith, when did you call your mother?" he asked right before she was going to fall asleep.

"before I went into labour, she called me because she knew my due date was soon" she answered tiredly.

"so you didn't call her?"

"Derek, she's my mother even if I did call her to tell her I went into labour you can't be mad about that, her grandson was born if you had a daughter who was pregnant and you didn't like the father you would still want to meet the baby, wouldn't you?" she said looking into my eyes.

"your mother thinks I kill people for a living" I pointed out.

"because you do"

"she thinks I'm a serial killer who kills innocent people"

"what do you want me to do? I've been telling her you're a nice person since we started dating. me saying something won't change her mind, she's too stubborn"

"well at least we know where you get it from" I sighed.

"I know you don't like her, but she's my mother and this is what you married into so deal with it"

"I just don't want her telling him I kill people"

"even if she does he's not gonna give a crap because he's like five hours old and when he won't know what that means for a while"

"stop making good points," I said before kissing her head and leaning back into my seat.

I know Greyson will find out one day what I do but I don't want him thinking I hurt just anybody I don't want him being scared of me or being scared that I'm going to hurt his mother.

my father still works in the mafia but I also had to be part of it when I was old enough and I don't want the same for Greyson. if he doesn't want to do it then I don't want to make him.

I'm also pretty sure Meredith doesn't want him in it either but just feels she can't say anything because Greyson is next in the heir. I always grew up knowing what my father did and I knew I would be doing the same one day, the only thing I didn't like about was always going to the hospital because he was hurt, or me, my sisters, and my mom being in danger because of what he does.

I was kidnapped once when I was a baby but don't remember it, my parents only told me that the other day so who else knows what they could be hiding. Meredith's already gotten hurt because of my job and that was very bad, she still can't lay on her back because of it and I don't want any of that around a newborn.
