MEREDITH SHEPHERD.

I'm now five months pregnant and a few weeks ago we found out we're having another little boy. Derek was thrilled when he found out we were having another boy to carry his name and Fiona was also very happy because she doesn't want a little sister for some reason.

Derek's outside playing with Greyson and Fiona. it's finally nice and warm outside and is the perfect temperature for the kids.

I walked back into the house and went into the kitchen to get something to drink when I heard my phone ringing. I picked it up and flipped it to see the caller ID, it was Derek's sister Amelia.

I swiped my finger across the green button and placed the phone to my ear. "hello" I say while pouring some drinks into a few glasses. "Meredith," I hear Amelia say, it sounded like she was crying. "Is everything okay?" I ask her. "No... something-something happened a-and I don't what to do" she cried. "what happened?" I asked.

"h-he's dead" she sobbed. "who's dead?" I ask worriedly. "R-Ryan, he's dead!" she sobbed into the phone. Ryan and she have been dating for six months, they were in love and engaged. "wha-ho- why don't you just come over to the house and we'll talk about" I tell her. "No-no, I have to stay here with him and wait for the police to get here," she says.

"they'll be able to figure out what happened. just be here and we'll be able to talk about it, it's best you don't stay there and look at him. just come over and we'll talk about or if you don't want to talk we don't have to," I say.

"I-um, yea. I-I'll be there in a sec," she says holding back a sob before she ended the call. I blinked away the tears that formed in my eyes before I grabbed the glasses and placed them on the tray before taking them outside.

I walked outside and placed them on the table that was outside. Greyson and Fiona came and sat down at the table and started drinking from their glasses. I walked over to the chair that was against the house and sat down in it. "you okay? Your eyes look a little red" Derek says as he sits down next to me. "yea... I just got a phone call from your sister" I say looking into my lap.

"oh, yea? which one?" he says. "Amelia," I answer. "oh, what happened? did she run out of money for drugs?" he rolls his eyes. a little bit after Fiona was born Amelia started doing drugs and drinking a lot. we didn't know when that when we asked her to watch the kids for a bit while we went out and she left the stove on while leaving Fiona and Greyson in the kitchen whilst she was smoking a joint in the bathroom. when we came home Fiona was crying, Greyson had a 2nd-degree burn on his palm, and Amelia was high as a kite and he's hadn't forgiven her and Fiona's already two.

"Derek, it was two years ago, and that's not why she called me. she called me crying saying that her boyfriend died," I say softly looking at him. he looked a little shocked and his face had a little sympathy but he hid it immediately. "did she say how?" he asks. "No, I told her not to just stare at his body and told her to come here," I tell him.

"you what?" he asked shocked. "yes, she's your sister. she's in pain and a lot of it, she needs somebody and your other sisters won't do it because they hate her and she thinks your parents are disappointed in her, your all she has" I say. "she almost killed our kids, Mer," he says looking into my eyes.

"I know, but she didn't mean to, we won't leave our kids alone with her anymore I don't fully trust her either. she needs somebody right now" I tell him. "fine," he says standing up and going to walk inside the house. "Derek, don't go in inside, please stay with the kids," I say. he turns to look at me. "the time we have with them at this age is very special, I would play with them but your their dad and I can't because I'm pregnant," I say. he sighs before playing with the kids whilst they run around the yard.

after a few minutes we saw a taxi pull up to the gates, the gates opened and the car drove in. Derek's hand quickly went to the gun in his holster. "Derek, it's fine it's just Amelia," I say putting my hand on his arm. "how do we know that?" he asks standing up. "if it wasn't then why did the guards open the gates. he rolls his eyes and sits back down.

the taxi parks and Amelia steps out of the car. her eyes are red and they have bags under them. her hair is in a messy low bun. she's wearing nothing but sweats. "Auntie Amelia!" the kids squeal when they see her and run to hug her. Derek watches as Amelia bends down to hug the kids, smiling sadly. "she loves the kids and means well" I whisper to him before standing up and walking over to her.

she stands up and looks at me as tears fill her eyes once again. her bottom lip curls into a pout before I pull her in for a hug. I wrap my arms around her soothingly. she hugs me tightly as I hear her little sobs into my shoulder as I rub her back. she holds back her sobs before she pulls away from the hug. "the guest room is empty and you can stay here for as long as you need" I say rubbing my hands over her forearms. she looks down and nods her head a bit. she says goodbye to the kids and goes into the house without even looking at Derek.

I walk back over to where Derek was and stood in front of him. "she's going to be staying here for a bit" I tell him. "why?" he asks staring at the kids chasing each other in a circle. "because she had nowhere else to go" I say. he doesn't say anything as he wraps his arm around my waist and pulling me into his lap.

"we'll help her get sober," I say leaning the side of my head against his and kissing his ear. "she won't do it," he says running his hand up my thigh under my dress. "don't you want her to get better?... don't you want your little sister back?" I say, pulling away to look at him. he turns his head away from me.

"Derek," I say, putting both my hands on his cheeks and turning his face to look at me. "don't you want your baby sister back? what would you want Greyson to do if he was in your place and Fiona was in Amelia's?" I ask. "Fiona wouldn't do that, she knows better," he says taking a sip from his glass. "I'm sure you thought the same when Amelia was young," I said looking into his eyes while I rub my thumbs over his cheeks.

"what if she doesn't get better?" he asks with tears in his eyes. "how will we know until we try?" I run my hands down to his neck, holding it gently in my hands. "it will cost a lot and I don't want to try so hard just for her to relapse and I don't want the kids to get excited about her being better just for them to be let down" he says looking away and griping my thigh in his hand.

"Just give her a chance, if you won't do it for her do it for me... please?" I say, giving him the face he can't say no to. "Mer, you know when you do that with eyes and lips I can't say no," he says looking back into my eyes. "I know" I smile. "fine, but If she relapses we're not giving her a second chance," he says. "thank you" I smiled kissing him on the lips multiple times.
