"Shit, shit, shit."
Her water fucking broke.
"As if my fucking life couldn't be as much of a movie." she said out loud, the anxiety and shock of the moment starting to catch up to her, hitting her like a train when she was hit with a heightened contraction.
She grabbed the phone, which was right beside her hand on the cabinet, immediately dialing Ethan.
"He's going to get mad at me." she thought, knowing that he would simultaneously blame him for allowing himself to leave her at home and leave. But she didn't care, and all she wanted was to hear his phone, and let him come save her. Because it hurt really bad, and she was terrified out of her mind.
As she felt another contraction come, and she decided to start timing then, she realized that the act of her water breaking caused the her contractions to become more intense, and more closer together. Close enough, that it was yet another sign that she needed to get to the hospital.
The phone rang once, twice, a third time, and continued to ring until the dreaded sound of the iPhone automated voicemail system rang on her phone. She called a second time, only to receive the same response.
Her contractions continued, and the tension and anxiety really started to set in. She didn't care about how busy he could possibly be, and continued to call him as often as she could. Next thing she knew, her fourth call had gone through, with the same response as the three others.
Continuing to call, she jumped into action, despite her debilitating anxiety, and started to clean the ground of the bathroom. She called three more times before she finished, and the scratching at the door from her beloved dog reminded her of yet another task to do.
The plan for the babies arrival was that Alan and big Louise would stay on standby for Mia and Ethan's call, keeping their bags in their car and ready to leave for Boston when they needed. While Mia would be giving birth in the hospital, they would be dog-sitting Jenner, and would stay for a couple weeks to help the new parents with their new babies.
Grabbing her phone, she broke the pattern of calling her husband to instead dial Louise's number, saved as 'Mom' in her phone.
"Hello." the female Ramsey picked up, emphasizing the end of the word with excitement. "Are you calling to tell us what I think you're telling?"
Mia smiled despite the pain and fear that overtook her body, dry chuckling as she shook her head.
"My water broke like 15 minutes ago." she said, as she heard Louise excitedly called for Alan, a tiny sound in the phone signaling the woman placed it on speaker.
"How are you feeling?" Alan asked.
"Haha, just getting ready to go." she said, trying her best not to burst into tears. "Can you guys..?"
"We're piling our things into the car as we speak." Louise said, and Mia took the second to thank the universe for at least giving her decent in-laws.
"Where's Ethan?" Alan asked, assuming that his son would've taken over already, especially since he could hear the pain in Mia's voice over the phone alone.
"Um... about that..." she said, the anxiety piling up in her chest. "Has Ethan talked to you guys at all today?"
"No..." Louise said.
"Where is he?" Alan asked, confusion and panic slowly starting to set in.
"I sent him this morning to go finish the things he needed to do at the hospital." That was over 3 hours ago, he said he would keep his ringer on and would keep checking his phone and I've been calling him for 20 minutes and nothing."
