Next thing I knew I was laying down on the bench. Ultear and Meredy were next to me, waving a fan over me. My head was throbbing, and I felt a bit disoriented as I was trying to sit upright.
"Are you okay?" Meredy, who looked extremely worried, asked me. She was waving both of her hands in front of my face, "How many fingers do I have? What's your name? Where do you go to school?"
"Um, what are you doing?" I questioned her behavior, and the loaded number of questions she just asked.
"Accessing if you have any brain damage. You got hit really hard." She explained, "So answer me!"
"You have 10 fingers. My name is Juvia, and I go to Magnolia High School." I answered with little enthusiasm while rubbing the bump forming on my head, "What happened to the game?"
Ultear handed me an ice pack, "Well, after you got hit, it was pretty much over for us. Meredy got hit right after you because she was trying to wake you up. Afterwards I caught the ball and threw it at Gray, but he caught it. So, then I was out. So once our trifecta fell, then the other team caught up."
"Oh, we lost?" I gasped, feeling a little guilty that I cost my team the game.
Ultear started snickering, "Oh no. We didn't lose." She full on started cracking up, "Lyon pretty much single-handedly turned the entire game around."
Meredy added, "No one could hit him with a ball. He was literally dancing around each ball and missing each one."
"He was giving the Matrix energy!" Ultear was bending back in slow motion to mimic Lyon.
"It was all that running from Mr. Makarov, no one can catch that weasel." I laughed as I stood up on my feet, keeping my balance the best I could.
"Are you sure you're good to keep going?" Meredy held my body to keep me stable, "You took a really hard hit to the head!"
"I'm good." I said confidently, knowing well that I probably wasn't, "Besides, I'm in this race!" I was the second to last person in the relay race coming up.
Ultear and Meredy didn't look too sure about it but, let me get up anyways. They followed behind me as we made it over to the track and field outside, joining everyone else.
Mr. Dreyer saw me coming over and joining my stretching classmates on the field, "Lockser, you sure you can do this?" He questioned me.
"I'm good, Coach!" I threw a thumbs up, wobbling a little as I stood.
He threw his eyebrow up and brushed it off, "Okay, join the others and get into your marks." I'm surprised he didn't argue it, but I did as I was told.
The race was 8x100, basically it meant there were 8 players per team and each person ran one lap around the track. Every team was given one baton. The baton can only be passed within the exchange zone, which is 20 meters long. Each runner needs to be holding the baton when they are running or they're disqualified. First one to the finish line wins the game.
Ultear was the first in the line up. I was second to last and Lyon was our closer. I noticed in the other team Daphne was starting and Gray was closing. Interesting to see how this plays out.
