It was the morning of the test and I was already at the facility with Erskine and Howard setting everything up and I was getting so nervous for Steve. I didn't know what was going to happen or if it even would work. I saw Steve and Peggy walk in when everyone else did and the room went silent. Once they walked down the small set of steps everyone got back to work. I walked over to Steve and he looked at the pod. Erskine looked at Steve and I.
"I will give you both a minute." He said and everyone around us walked away."You can still say no." I said and Steve shook his head.
"You know I never back down from a challenge Hazel." Steve said and I huffed a laugh.
"Steve, I love you." I said, I leaned in and passionately kissed him.
"I love you too but I will be okay. I trust Howard and Erskine and most of all I trust you. You are my best girl and mean the world to me." Steve said and I sighed leaning my forehead against his. I leaned back off his forehead and looked at Erskine and he nodded.
"Okay, so this is going to sound weird coming from me but we need you to take off your tie, hat and shirt." I said and Steve smirked at me. He took off his tie and hat handed me to me and then his shirt. I gave him one final quick kiss and walked away. I watched Steve get in the pod as I stood helping Howard making sure the grid board was correct and everything was set up.
"Stark? Can I have a word?" Steve asked before he fully got in the pod. Howard walked over to him,
"If this doesn't work and something goes wrong get Hazel out before they get me out and then take care of her." Steve said. Howard nodded and I overheard what he said and I had tears fill my eyes. I took a deep breath to gather myself.
"Agent Carter, why don't you take Miss Morris up to the booth." Erskine said and I shook my head.
"I want to stay here, help Howard." I said and Howard shook his head as did Steve.
"Go to the booth Hazel." Steve said.
"I got this handled." Stark said and I sighed. Peggy linked her arm in mine and we walked back up the set of stairs to the small observation booth where I saw Colonel Phillips sitting as well.
"Agent Carter, Miss Morris." He said acknowledging us.
"Good Morning Colonel." I said as I sat down between him and Peggy. My hand was shaking on my knee so Peggy grabbed it and I smiled at the comfort. I heard Erskine give a speech but I was only watching Steve
"Serum infusion begin in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." Erskine counted down and then I saw Stark push the lever up and the blue serum that had been connected to the pod all disappeared and emptied and I knew it was going into Steve. He winced in pain and then his eyes shot open in panic.
"Close the chamber Stark." Erskine said and he pulled on another lever and the pod started moving upward and closing. Once it was all closed I heard Erskine make sure Steve was okay and once he was he nodded at Stark who turned a handle and then started slowly spinning a wheel. A bright light started to illuminate from the small window on the pod. Howard was saying what percentage of Vita Rays which enhanced the serum were being used. He made it to 70% and Steve started yelling in pain. Erskine rang up to the window and started yelling for Steve, I couldn't take it anymore and left the observation room and stood on the landing of the steps.
"SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT IT DOWN NOW!" I yelled. Erskine looked at me and got no response from Steve.
"Kill the reactors Stark!" Erskine yelled and Howard went to do it.
"NO! DON'T! I CAN DO THIS!" Steve yelled from inside and my eyes filled with tears.
"STEVE STOP!" I yelled
