*****STEVE POV*****

I woke up before dawn like I have for the past year and did my morning workout in the gym punching a bag reliving the worst time of my life and everyone I had lost. I had constant flashbacks of Hazel and I together, her voice, her laugh, me telling her I was putting the jet down in the water, Bucky falling from the train and all of it being my fault. I had let everyone I loved down, I was alone now because of my own stupidity. I wasn't even sure what kind of life Hazel lead after I left her. Had she moved on, remarried, had the family she always wanted...I would never know. I know I punched harder hating the thought of another man touching her. As I continued to punch harder and harder I sent the punching bag flying across the room. I groaned and sighed going to pick up another bag and continued to punch.

"Trouble sleeping?" I heard someone asked and I looked to see Nick Fury standing in the doorway.

"I slept for 70 years sir, I think I've had my fill." I said.

"Then you should be out, celebrating, seeing the world." Nick said.

"When I went in the ice world was at war. I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost." I said and sighed.

"I know what I lost." I said as I walked away from the punching bag and started unwrapping my hands. Fury sighed looked at the file in his hand.

"I found the personnel file you asked about. Can I ask who she was?" Nick asked and I sighed.

"My fiancé. I left her when I went in the water." I said and Nick gave a sympathetic look.

"I'm sorry to hear that Cap." Nick said and handed over the file.

"There isn't much there if you are wanting personal information. I did add some info in there of someone who would maybe fill you in on the personal aspects of her life." Nick said and I opened the file and I smiled at the name I saw and the address.

"Thank you." I said and grabbed my bag and walked out. I knew where I needed to go now. I showered and left gym driving to the address I was provided. When I arrived at her room and I smiled seeing her laying in the bed sleeping. A part of my past was still here and I couldn't be happier knowing she was. She was the key to my past. As I stood in the doorway to watching her I heard her speak up.

"Well are you going to just stand there or come in?" Peggy's frail voice said and I smiled. I walked in and sat next to her bed and grabbed her hand.

"I heard they found you and you were alive. A year ago Steve." Peggy said and I huffed a laugh.

"Yeah, it's been a tough year. I have tried becoming accustomed to this way of life. It's a lot to process." I said and Peggy sighed. I looked at the pictures she had on her bedside table and once caught my eye. I leaned forward and picked it up.

"She was my maid of honor in my wedding." Peggy said and I sighed. She looked beautiful in her bridesmaids dress, I traced a finger along her face.

"You both looked beautiful. You should be proud of yourself Peggy. You lead an amazing life. I mean and husband, kids, grandkids...it's amazing." I said.

"I have lived a life, my only regret is that you didn't get to live yours." Peggy said and I looked down as I put the picture back.

"What is it?" Peggy asked seeing my face.

"For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to do what was right. Since I came out of the ice I'm not sure what that is anymore. I don't even know if putting the jet down like I did was the right thing. I mean Hazel wanted to find me a safe place. I should have let her. I left her alone Peggy." I explained. Peggy giggled.
