August 12th, 1991. 7:36 A.M.

Vanessa found herself falling from middle earth and hurling directly downwards until she crashed through and landed straight onto her mattress. She jerked awake with the sensation leaving her to clutch her chest with fright.

She immediately sat up, forcing her sharp fingernails into her pounding skull, knowing that something must've been seriously off from the second her eyes shot open.

It was the realisation that she actually had a good night's sleep and didn't wake up at all, not even once. Although thankful for the rarity of a night of restful sleep, she didn't appreciate the shocked wake up call.

Vanessa winced, starting to become blinded with a terrible migraine as it ravished her thoughts. She laid her head back down on the pillow to ease the discomfort. Her heavy eyelids were making it difficult to stay awake while in a horizontal position. As she almost dozed off again, she remembered that school was waiting for her.

Vanessa launched herself from the bed and barged into her kitchen, where the time displayed on the microwave meant she was running late for school. She quickly shuffled through the cabinets to find medication for the killer migraine.

There was no way that she would mess up her perfect attendance by risking a day off or lateness. Even in sixth grade when she came down with a non contagious, yet sickly illness she made it to school on time.

She blitzed through the apartment, rushed off her feet and threw clothes all over the place, before finally ripping a comb through her knotted hair.

When she hits the street, she is blinded by the bright colours of the outside world and the sunlight beating down on her head. She didn't have time to waste and just decided to lurch into a sprint towards school.
