Dallas burst through the downtown streets, he thrust himself with each stride, trying to propel forward even if it was just an inch more. His shoe caused him to slide on the thick layer of ice on the footpath. His focus didn't waver as he rolled towards the docks. His heart and chest burned so powerfully that he felt like he would faint if he stopped.

Dallas halted at the empty dock and narrowly avoided a nosedive off the edge. The boat had headed off earlier than he had expected. Vanessa was on it, on her way to her parent's home across the harbour.

He steadied himself back onto the planks, and debated his next move. With a frenzied mind and strong desire, it doesn't take a blimp more of thought. No matter how cold the arctic temperature of the ocean were, it simply didn't seem important.

In an instant, he leaped from the edge of the pier and splashed into the darkness below him. Straight away as his body hit the freezing winter water, his lungs started to slow down. Even his limbs seemed to stiffen as his heartbeat raced to heat the rest of his body.

The rear of the boat was just up ahead in the near distance, there was no reason to go back to the dock. All he wanted was not far from him and he wouldn't stop at whatever it took to get there. As he swam, Dallas realised that returning to the surface wasn't possible anymore. All he could think of was Vanessa and how fast he could reach her.

Dallas pushed himself past his own limits, with a burning sensation in his forearms, he swam as fast as he ever swam before. If he had waited another half an hour, another ferry would've picked him up and taken him not far behind Vanessa.

At the stern of the ship, a few stray passengers lingered. Someone sees Dallas in the water and called for the crew. Not long afterwards a spotlight is placed on him, and a rescue team is alerted.

A handful of people tried to shout to Dallas, but he couldn't listen with all the water in his ears. Vanessa was imprinted in his survival. It was her who gave him the strength to continue, and it would be her to provide him the warmth he needed to survive this.
