Dallas and Lindsey strolled exhaustively with their hearts dribbling like the basketballs on the endless concrete courts. He strained his eyes on the warm tinge of orange as the sunset seeped into their skin.
Lindsey ignored the smell of burnt rubber. Her heart was all in Vanessa and where she must've gone. It was her unmeasurable love for her which had started all this. Dallas was only a link in the chain and she had to come clean to save their friendship.
"I know this is too little too late but I didn't make a move on you because of how close you were with Vanessa. I'm sorry if I hurt you, or made you believe we could be together..."
Dallas was stunned to hear all this, although he knew it already, there was a barrier which had stopped him from believing it. He was naïve in that sense, and pulled wool over his eyes to keep his heart at bay.
Lindsey continued on, "...Daniel and I started to talk more and more, things just happened to work out between us. I didn't mean to hurt Vanessa in the process. I never even wanted to end up like this. I didn't want to lose my best friend, but I finally found someone to love me."
She had poured her heart out to him, and it was only fair he did the same.
"Lindsey. She had this insane idea that we could be something more than friends. I think in her telling me that, I sort of lost my sense of direction. I would rather be your friend, not your lover. I hope that's not a**holish of me, I sort of knew it was over the moment I saw Daniel's face when he spoke your name. I lost out because my eyes were on someone else."
Her eyes misted over at his words. It could've been simpler if all these emotions weren't involved, she finally knew what she had suspected this whole time.
"You love her, you truly love her, don't you?"
"I think I do. Whatever love means." Dallas said, "It's much too hard to deal with. I just want the feeling to go away sometimes but then I see her. Whether she is mad or sad, or happy. It all becomes worth it."
