December 4th, 1991. 11:23 P.M.
Daniel used a key to unlock the front door to his parents home. They were gone most of the time with business, so wouldn't mind if he had guests over to start with.
He pushed the double doors open to reveal the lavish, upscale interior of the living room. Vanessa hadn't ever been here before, but Dallas and Lindsey had. She peered around for a moment, it wasn't what she had expected.
A sudden cough from upstairs alerted them all to someone else. There were thumps that radiated through the ceiling and then creaks as they placed their weight down on the floorboards.
"Rachael!" called out Daniel, surprised to see her from upstairs, "Sorry, we woke you up."
"I've been called a hundred times to watch the news. You guys are serious freaks..." Rachael snickered as she slumbered down to the ground floor. She took one hard look at Dallas and Vanessa before shaking her head.
Vanessa was shocked to see her, not that she looked any better, but Rachael was unrecognisable. The flu had ravished her features. She had rubbed her eyes red raw and had frazzled hair. It was a stark difference to her usual up do.
"How did you not freeze to death?" she sniffled and wiped the snot from her drippy nose.
Dallas and Vanessa looked at each other. It was awkward enough to be stood in Daniel's house with their clothes stuck to their skin. They shifted uncomfortably from one foot to another, and even more now that they were somewhat of an item.
The group kneeled around the coffee table. Daniel set a folded pile of clothes before both of them, "It's not much, but..." he started to say.
Vanessa shook her head, "It's perfect, they're perfect." she assured him, feeling the fabric of the clothes. Anything would've been better than the drenched ones she was in.
Lindsey yanked Vanessa up from the floor, "It's shower time for you, missy." she breathed and whisked her up the staircase and down the narrow hall to one of the three spare bedrooms. She seemed to know her way around this place.
