November 23rd, 1991. 5:46 P.M.
It was the much awaited phone call that put Vanessa on edge. Her parents were on the other end as she picked up and pressed her ear against it. She hoped for a warm greet and to discuss plans of her possibly moving back home for a while.
"Honey, your father and I don't think it's the right time." her mother formally told her. The first and last fatal words from her mouth.
"I should've known." Vanessa slams the receiver down. After a short time of battling these emotions, she felt uncontrollably upset.
Vanessa swept out of the apartment and almost tumbled down the stairwell in agony. She had tied a loose coat around her waist, and went to find Dallas. As she hammered on the door of his house, she only became more delicate with the reject she knew all too well.
The tears overwhelmed her features, with no answer at this doorstep. She could only crumble to the ground until he returned.
Daniel happened to be on his way to see Dallas, but noted he was out when he saw Vanessa's frail body on the top step. She helplessly lifted her head from between her knees as he knelt beside her.
He didn't speak much, instead Daniel embraced her, something she had always daydreamed about. The feeling didn't help her case. She still felt just as terrible as if she would if he wasn't the one consoling her.
Vanessa realised then that he wasn't the answer to her prayers like she had once believed him to be. It didn't stop the floodgates of tears from sprouting out of her eyes. She choked on her own sobs as she explained it all to him.
How her parents had been her entire life, and the way they would only bring her out during events like she was some prize to them. She also told him about the dinner, and finally the last phone call.
Daniel listened in silence, occasionally giving her feedback but that was about it. She feared he didn't understand her at all.
"It sounds like you're going through a rough time. I don't like my parent's very much either." he replied. They lived in the same world with rich parents, but seemed so far apart.
