Ankle deep in snow, Vanessa felt differently towards Dallas. Almost protective, when it was him who had always been the protector before all this.

But it wasn't only that, which she felt so deeply about. It was the new butterflies in the pit of her stomach. The one's she couldn't yet place as simply love or fear. Both of which she had, although unknowingly to her.

Vanessa had a task to get done with other newspaper club members. They had to take photos, statements from the janitor and gardener about the mess in the school. These mundane tasks kept her from going insane.

Vanessa was the one to interview them, while Johnny wrote it all down and Mary snapped the photos. The pair were dating, so Vanessa trudged ahead to leave the love birds some privacy.

With Mary and Johnny flirting, the obvious void of them wanting alone time for whatever boyfriends and girlfriends did became apparent.

As the three of them moved across the soccer field, Vanessa kept thinking of all this. Those feelings she had always had towards Daniel were now transferred to Dallas.

She came across him and halted. Dallas was on the ledge of the loading dock behind the cafeteria. Mary and Johnny practically knocked straight into Vanessa, then looked to see what she was staring at.

"That's him, the dude I was telling you about!" Mary whispered a little too loud to her boyfriend.

Johnny spiked her in the ribs with his elbow, then nudged towards Vanessa, who was lost in the trance of Dallas again.

"I'll catch up with you guys later." she uttered to the others.

"Alright, have fun with the Cowboy." chuckled Mary as she was taken away by Johnny.

She didn't wonder why he wasn't in class. Dallas often skipped when he didn't feel up for it. Vanessa wished she could be the same but her perfect attendance said otherwise. She would have much rather spend time with him than stringing along with Mary and Johnny or in some classroom.
