The next day I had a lunch meeting on her side of town and thought I'd surprise her with a little something from the restaurant I was at. I had figured out her schedule and knew she had class during normal lunch hours and figured she'd be hungry when she got out.
The part I didn't think about was that I didn't know what building she was in. I knew of the one building which she said was where most of her classes were so I headed there first but decided I'd still check with the one person I thought would know.
Pulling out my phone, I called Mully.
"'Ello," he answered.
"Hey, mate, are you with Tomi, by any chance?"
"Not at the moment, no. Why?"
"Do you think you could ask her what building Ophelia has class in right now. I finished my meeting and thought I'd surprise her with a sandwich since she probably hasn't eaten since this morning."
"Yeah, I can check for ya. Call you back in a minute."
"Thanks, mate."
We hung up. As I waited on him to call or text me back, I walked up to the tree she likes to study in where we had our first little coffee date. She seemed so hesitant then. Crazy the difference a couple of weeks can make.
While I was looking around, I saw some people start to come out of the building so I started walking towards it. My phone rang. I saw it was Mully. Answering, I asked, "Did she know?"
"Now, but she did say, and I quote - is there some reason he can't call her and just ask?" He laughed a little.
"I'm trying to surprise her. Did you tell her that?"
"I did. She didn't seem to think that was a good enough reason. Dude, I love her sarcasm." Mully let out a loud laugh.
"Ha...ha. I guess I will just call her and give away my plan. Tell Tomi thanks for nothing." I laughed before hanging up.
I looked around and figured I could call her without totally giving myself away. I did want to surprise her, after all. I started calling her as several more people walked out. The phone rang as I thought I heard her laughter. She had a fairly distinctive laugh.
The phone kept ringing as I looked for her. When I found her, I saw some guy walking with her, carrying her bag. They were walking quite close to each other. In fact, he kept finding ways to touch her. He grabbed her arm and pulled on it slightly; he reached for her hand; he hooked his finger on the collar of her shirt and looked as if he was trying to look down her shirt. This guy was all over her and she wasn't stopping him.
'What the fuck is this?' I thought to myself, my good feelings dropping to the pit of my stomach.
