By the end of the night, Ophelia and I had once again won trivia. She made our celebratory drinks as Mully, Tomi, and Tara scowled at us from across the bar.
"I think they're cheating," Mully said.
"How would we be cheating?" I asked.
"Using your phones," Mully said, eyeing us suspiciously.
"Oh, please, you've got us in your line of sight the whole time? Plus, there's a bit of a time crunch. Don't have time to pull out our phones and look it up, especially when there are lots of eyes. Plus, I was, you know, working," Ophelia said, sassily.
"I don't know how you did it, but you did and I'm gonna find a way to prove it. One of you cheated."
"Oh, pssh," I said, taking a sip from my fourth Old Fashioned of the night. "Sore losers, from the looks of it."
"You're damn right, we are!" Tomi said, but I could tell she was trying not to laugh.
"Well, don't get made at us because we're brilliant and you're...average" Ophelia said, lightly waving her hand in their direction as she stood next to me with her other hand on my shoulder, a posh look on her face.
Tomi's face went into shock, "Ophelia! I don't know whether to be insulted or be proud of you in this moment. I've taught you so well!" Tomi acted like she was about to cry.
They both laughed a little.
"I think next week should be girls versus boys," Tara suggested.
Ophelia and Tomi both appeared to like that idea. All three girls seem to have bonded a bit, which Mully and I were happy about.
"Noooo!" I whined. "She's mine, you can't have her!" I playfully grabbed Ophelia's hand and pulled her to me, wrapping my arms around her protectively. There was no longer anyone else in the restaurant except for those working, so I felt safer and more comfortable being a bit more handsy with her. I was also quite tipsy at this point. "I've tasted the sweet nectar of victory and I shall not give it up!"
Everyone around me just giggled at my goofiness. Tara then excused herself to go to the restroom. Tomi and Mully started talking about something. Ophelia turned to face me, still wrapped in my embrace, and placed a cute little kiss on my nose before I buried my face in her neck, inhaling her scent. Even when mixed with alcohol and grease, her natural scent was still enticing to me.
"You're such a goof," she said, wiggling out of my hold of her slightly so she could raise her arms and wrap them around my neck.
"A bit of a tipsy goof," I said, looking back up at her.
Rubbing her nose again mine, she cutely said, "Eskimo kisses." She scrunched up her face, and if I had any reason to doubt her cuteness, she instantly proved me wrong. Not that I had doubted it.
I buried my face back into her neck, wrapping my arms around her tightly. For some reason, this strange feeling had come over me and I felt like I needed to wrap her up and protect her. Or was I trying to protect myself?
"Wanna come over?" She asked, running her fingers through my hair.
"Yes," I said, my face still buried in her neck.
"God, get a fucking room!" Mully yelled at us from across the bar.
I finally looked up and yelled, "As if the two of you have any room to talk! You two make me want to find a new roommate."
"Well, maybe you should have Ophelia over more instead of always going to her place," Mully said.
"Ohh, he got you there," Tomi said.
"I would but then we'd never have any privacy."
"Yeah, but I haven't even seen your house. Don't want me to know where you live?" Ophelia asked.
I turned to look at her, "I have no problem with you coming to my house. More than welcome to." I kissed her on the nose.
"Like I said, get a room," Mully huffed, jokingly.
"And this is why she hasn't been over yet. She doesn't have anyone to interrupt us with stupid comments," I said.
Mully started to say something but Tomi stopped him. "The little cheater has a point."
"I didn't cheat!"
Tomi laughed as she and Ophelia got back to cleaning.
