Marlo:

I haven't seen her since Tuesday. It's now Friday.

I mean, it's not like I'm expecting to run into her or anything, especially seeing as we have different timetables. Plus, we live on opposite sides of the accommodation.

It's not as if I want to see her, like I miss her or anything.

Do I miss her? Maybe. I don't know.

No, I've only known her less than two weeks there's no way that I could possibly miss her already.

It's also not like I've been thinking about her. Thinking about the face she does when she's trying not to laugh, or how she smells like spring. No, nothing like that.

That would be weird.

"Yo, Marlo. How you been?"

Some random guy pats me on the back as I look at him, squinting. I try and get my eyes to focus and attempt to recognise who's speaking to me as he continues.

"Do you know where Luke is? I came with him."

Who the fuck is Luke.

"Nah, I don't know, man. Haven't seen him." My words slur as I say them, and I shake my head.

I'm so fucking drunk.

"If you see him around tell me, yeah?" The guy says.

"Alright," I say, even though I don't even know who he is, let alone Luke.

He nods, then pats me on the back again as he walks off into the crowd of people.

I take another drink of the beer even though I'm painfully aware of the pounding in my head. The music is so loud that I can feel it through the floor.

A hand on my arm and I turn, thinking it's the guy again, but it's a familiar face, and she grins.

"Hi, Marlo."

"Hey," I say to Becca and I watch as she pours herself a shot of vodka from the bottle on the table.

"I am so drunk." She says after she downs it.

I don't know what to say, so I say nothing.

"You having fun?"

"Yeah, you?"

She scrunches her face. "Bored, to be honest."

"Oh, really? Why?"

She pours herself another shot before answering. "Kind of thought I'd be kissing someone right about now."

I laugh, and she doesn't, and she's looking at me in a weird kind of way, stepping closer.

"So, you hooking up with anyone here?"

I look round, then back at her. "Like who?"

She shrugs, still looking at me. "I don't know, I was just asking."
