The next morning, you woke with a start. Panic and adrenaline flowed through your veins, something was holding you down and you tried to get away.

A strong force was stopping you from moving and you were about to resort to violence when a voice processed in your veins.

"Mel! Calm down, it's just me. You're safe." The smooth and deep voice made your nerves calm enough for you to assess your surroundings.

You opened your eyes and we're met with concerned red orbs peering at you through soft black eyelashes.

The voice had belonged to none other than Alastor.

He had stayed the night?

When did he show up in the first place?

And you were inside your room. So your dad had to know.

Was he okay with it?

As the adrenaline began to slowly slip out of your bloodstream, you could relax and take a breath. Nothing but warmth surrounded you, no chains, no blood.

No reminders of your past mistakes.

Nothing threatened you.

Instead, you had become the threat.

Alastor laid about a food from you, his hand holding your wrist where the skin had turned black as sharp claws threatened to bear down on him and tear him to pieces. Your other hand was wrapped around his throat, ready to crush his windpipe.

Alastor never threatened you, he merely stopped you from harming him further.

"You're okay." He says again in a calm tone as though you're not even remotely threatening to him. Slowly you relaxed and released your grip on his throat.

Alastor released your wrist and it slowly rest against his side again. You took a few deep breaths and allowed yourself to completely sink into the mattress. Your hand fell from Alastor's throat, and lay against the pillow.

Alastor lifted his right hand, making you flinch a bit.

"I'm not going to hurt you. You know that I would never." Alastor assured, gently laying his hand over your face. His thumb slowly stroked the skin over your cheekbone. You felt exhausted even though you had just woken up.

You lifted your left hand to lay it over his.

"Thank you." You breathed sincerely, making Alastor frown a bit.

"What for?" He questioned, shifting the slightest bit as he lay in your bed.

"Coming to get me. And staying." You responded, letting out a deep breath.

"Mel, if anything I should be apologizing. I should have guessed he would pull something like this. I should have been there, or at least walked you." Alastor breathed, his hand sliding back into your hair.

"I don't need to be protected, I can usually handle myself. You don't have to apologize."

"Mel I don't want to protect you because you're weak," Alastor urged "I want to protect you because you're important."

His words struck a chord in you, one you hadn't known existed. Unable to think of a point to follow his statement with, you just took a deep breath and gave him a grateful look.

"Thank you." You said again, pulling yourself closer to him. Alastor wrapped you in his arms  once more.

"I can tell you're tired, go back to sleep. I'll be here when you wake up." Alastor assured,  stroking you with gentle hands. Under his touch, you found the will to fall asleep again.
