Within the two weeks that Mel had been gone, nothing significant had happened. However, since I had been in the castle on the southern side of the pentagram by myself for a while, I'd had a few demons come to me with tips. Though most of them led to a dead end.

Even Malcom had come to me with a theory. Although, his also quickly came to a close.

So as I sat in the office of the castle reading the papers I'd read hundreds of times already, hoping for something I had missed to pop out at me, I got a phone call.

I picked up the phone on the desk and lifted it to my ear, once again hearing Lilith's voice. She requested that I return to the castle, there was large news at hand apparently.

I knew better than to protest, even though I wanted to stay and continue reading, after all I had to keep the hotel running along with the affairs of the south side. Again, it wasn't impossible, just highly annoying.

Half the shit that came to my desk was insignificant at best.

Without another thought, I quickly teleported and walked back into the castle. Inside, the sight that greeted me was a shock to say the least.

An angel, and Charlie.

For a moment, hope soared in my chest as I thought Lucifer was there, and Mel would be on the other side.

But it was clearly sliced in half, the angel turned, and at the sight of his golden eyes, I knew it wasn't Lucifer.

It was Michael.

Charlie saw me and immediately ran to embrace me.

I wrapped her in a tight hug that she so clearly needed before I walked back over to Lilith and Michael.

"Have you seen Lucifer?" Lilith asked Michael hopefully.

"Yes, I can only assume that he and the others are still in the rune fighting Oni."

"So how did you get back?" I asked immediately, I didn't necessarily trust the angel, but Lilith was at ease with him, so I let myself be at ease.

"I honestly don't know. I've brought it up to father, he's refusing to open the rune." Michael informed solemnly.

"Why?" Charlie asked, making Michael sig.

"Lucifer is the only other person with the power to open it. I can only assume it's to keep more Oni from escaping. Every time we open that rune, we put the universe at risk, so I can understand it." Michael sighed.

Annoyance flared in my chest, Michael realized it, I saw it in his gaze. But for my own sake, and those around me, I remained calm.

"So, what is Lucifer planning?" Stolas asked, I only just realized that he and Via were here, however, it was to be expected.

"He'll likely continue trying his luck with returning through the heart of the rune."

"They'll get killed." Lilith fretted.

"I have faith in my brother, if anything he can get through then release the others. Lucifer isn't incapable Lilith." Michael said.

He spoke so fondly of his older brother.

Why?

I assumed that he would hate Lucifer. Clearly I was wrong, Michael held no resentment towards anyone in the room.

Not even me.

...

What a thought.
