Chapter 15 - Prison Break

2024, Berlin.

"He's just through that corridor." The police officer informed Sam and Bucky as they walked down the halls of the prison where Zemo was being kept.

"Give us a sec." Bucky told the officer.

Sam and Bucky stopped as the officer nodded and walked away. Bucky turned to Sam.

"I'm gonna go in alone." He told him.

"Why?" Sam questioned.

"Because you're an Avengers. You know how he feels about that." Bucky explained.

"Look, it's not like you two were known for frolickin' in the sun together." Sam said.

"He was obsessed with HYDRA. We have a history together." Bucky reminded him. "Trust me. I got it."

Without saying a word, Sam watched Bucky walk away from him and to the cell that held Zemo. Bucky walked in, and approached the glass walls that separated him from the prisoner. Zemo began speaking Russian as he emerged from the shadows. More specifically, he was saying the code words to activate the Winter Soldier.

"Those days are over." Bucky told him.

"I know." Zemo spoke. "I just wanted to see how the new you reacts to the old words."

Zemo walked up to the glass. The two men glared at each other.

"Something is still in there." Zemo remarked. "At least you were not conscious for most of your imprisonment."

"That time wasn't exactly a picnic." Bucky stated.

"For what it's worth... I'm sorry." Zemo said. "It was never personal. You were simply a means to a necessary end."

For a few seconds, Bucky went quiet, but then he eventually spoke again.

"Someone recreated the super soldier serum."

Zemo turned to Bucky.

"I need to find out who." Bucky told him.

Zemo approached the glass wall once again.

"You are assuming HYDRA has something to do with this. Which is why you came to me. Which means you are desperate." He stated. "Luckily for you, I know where to begin."

Meanwhile, Sam paced back and forth outside the cell, waiting for Bucky to return. About 30 minutes went by when Bucky did eventually exit the cell, while being escorted by a guard, of course. Bucky then led Sam down the hallway to some ominous parking garage, as he told Sam what he wanted to do next.

"What are you talking about?! You wanna break Zemo outta jail?" Sam questioned him. "Where the hell are we, Buck? Have you lost your mind?"

"We have no leads, no moves, nothing." Bucky told him.

"Yeah. What we have is one of the most dangerous men in the world behind bars." Sam argued.

"We also have 8 super soldiers on the loose." Bucky counter argued.

"Zemo's gonna mess with our minds. Especially yours. No offence." Sam told him.

Bucky approached a power box, and managed to turn on the lights.

"Offence." He stated. "Super soldiers go against everything he believes in. He is crazy but he still has a code."

"I've been on the wrong side of the code and so have you." Sam told him. "He blew up the UN, he killed King T'Chaka and he framed you for it. Did you forget that? You think the Wakandans forgot about it?"
