2024, New York.
"Bye, kids! See you next session!" Clover shouted on the ice rink as they watched the young figure skaters leave with their families.
Several months had gone by since the whole Flag Smasher thing, and Clover had just turned 23 the previous week. It felt a bit odd to them, considering they'd be almost 30 years old if not for the whole 'being gone for 5 years' thing.
"Before I head out, can I talk to you about something, Clover?" Bradley asked.
"Yeah, sure. Go ahead." Clover shrugged.
"So... you and I have been working together for what... 4 years, now?"
"Good job. You actually took into account the 5 years I was non-existent."
"Yeah, well, not the point. My point is that you've been working part time with me this whole time, and I was just thinking."
Clover stopped on the ice to look at their friend.
"How would you feel about working full time? Assuming you've got the time to do that." He questioned.
"Sure. I'd be down." Clover shrugged.
"Really? Wow, that was a fast response..." Bradley muttered.
"Well, I'm not gonna find a job better than this one, Bradley." Clover said.
Bradley chuckled, then shrugged.
"Sounds good." He said.
Grabbing his duffel bag and preparing to head out, he said bye to his ice powered friend and made his way to the exit. He got to the lobby of the ice rink, and then in walked in Sam from the front entrance.
"Well I'll be damned. You're just about the last person I expected to see on my way out." He said. "Looking for Clover?"
Sam chuckled at Bradley's statement and nodded. Bradley smiled at the man and pointed to the door behind him, where Clover could be seen through the window ice skating to their heart's content. Sam thanked Bradley as the coach left the ice rink and opened the red doors leading to the arena. At first, Clover was too immersed into their own little world to notice the door had opened, but they eventually turned and noticed Sam.
"Hey, I didn't realize you were coming here." They remarked.
"Just a surprise visit." Sam shrugged.
"Gotta be careful, Birdbrain. Last time I got a surprise visit, I also got my ass kidnapped." Clover chuckled. "Well, okay I got one other surprise visit after that but that's completely unrelated."
Sam laughed a bit as he leaned against the wall of the ice rink, watching his friend glide around the ice.
"So are you here to talk to me about any random important shit or are you just surprise visiting me?" The young adult questioned as they came to a stop, their icicle blades screeching lightly over the ice.
Sam shrugged, which gave Clover the impression that he was here for the second reason, not the first. After all, he didn't appear to be suited up.
"Well, the world doesn't have to be ending for me to get to see my favourite ice skater, does it?" He asked.
"No, I suppose not." Clover chuckled.
They skated towards the ledge, pressing their cold forearms against the top. Sam looked at the young adult and smiled, seeing how content they were with their life.
"I don't think 15-year-old me would have ever imagined this being their life. Y'know, with the ice powers, the ice skating coach career... the fact that I'm practically a superhero..." They said. "Okay, well, technically I think I'm more of a sidekick."
"Or a partner." Sam added.
"Partner? Sidekick? Same thing, really." Clover shrugged, leaning their body up against the ledge.
"Depends on the context." Sam chuckled.
Clover felt their face heat up (metaphorically, of course) as they let out a quiet giggle.
"That was cheesy, Birdbrain." They said.
Sam didn't say anything, instead just chuckling at Clover's comment.
"You ever gonna stop calling me that?" He asked.
"Eh. You aren't gonna admit your getting attached to the nickname?" Clover said. "I know I am."
Stepping a bit closer towards his friend, Sam just looked at Clover in the eyes. Clover and sam had been growing closer since everything that had happened and even from the start they had good chemistry.
"Sam I-"
And without warning, suddenly the two of them kissed. They had feelings for each other for a bit now but both didn't know it. Clover put their hands around Sam's neck. The two of them finally pulled away and looked at each other in shock.
"Would you believe me if I said I've wanted to do that for a while?" Clover asked.
"Why do you think I did that?" Sam chuckled. "Now let go of me. You're freezing."
"Right. My bad." Clover mumbled as they let go of Sam, pushing themselves back ever so slightly.
Couple hours later, Sam and Clover finally made their way out, as Clover had to get home relatively soon.
"Hey, call me if you got any issues!" Clover yelled.
Sam smiled and nodded, before making his way down the street to return home. When Clover got home, they let out a sigh of satisfaction before heading to their room and moving on with their life.
As they had said earlier, their 15-year-old self would have never imagined this would be their life, but they were happy, and that's all that mattered, for Clover Pine.
A/N: I know it's been a while I've just been super busy with school and stuff.
