Chapter 10

Jason's been on his bed ever since he left the party for home, he's been scrolling through his following's stories on Instagram.

Jason sees a video of Timi and Moyo kissing on Lateef's story and immediately feels irritation, although he felt good about the fact that Timi was reluctant and looked like he was struggling to pull away from Moyo.

Beamer spams Jason with pictures and videos from the party, Jason explained he showed up for the party but had to leave for urgent reasons.

Beamer tells Jason about kissing Stephanie, hoping someone recorded it as proof, Jason believed him anyways.

Jason's response to Beamer was so short, Beamer could sense he wasn't in the mood to talk so he ended the conversation and went offline.

Jason texted his LGM after, saying "Hey, I feel so frustrated... Timi clearly doesn't want to be in a relationship with Moyo, he's not even straight, he should stop forcing himself on her, it doesn't work that way, I honestly can't blame him, if you're in a society like this, you'd have probably wanted to feel among to... Being in a society that has deemed you 'abnormal' or 'stupid', You wouldn't want to feel that way, I wish people could understand it isn't a choice"

She responds immediately agreeing with everything he says, she also adds "why would they even think it's a choice? Why would someone in their right mind, choose to be apart of a community that has been demonized, criticized and sometimes killed for just existing? Why?"

Jason doesn't really open up about his feelings to anyone, no one other than Timi knows he's gay, but he just felt so safe talking to her, she clearly understood him, he wished there were more people like her in the world.

The morning after, Lateef called Malik and Chika to his class.

"Look, I don't know what you two used to do to each other but it better stop..." Lateef starts.

"We're not doing anything..." Malik says.

"Will you shut up? Am I your mate?" Lateef asks rhetorically "I don't want to see the two of you together, you this boy stay away from my brother, I'm warning you, he's not a fag stop talking to him" Lateef points at Chika, Chika felt so hurt by his words, he wanted to cry but he knew if he did, that'd only contribute to the insults he's already received.

Chika and Malik wanted to leave together but Lateef stops his brother from following Chika, Malik stayed behind with his brother, Lateef mocked the way Chika walked as he left.

Malik wanted to stand up for Chika so badly but he didn't want to fight with his brother.

A tear rolled down Chika's cheek as he got passed SSS3 block, he regretted why he was born into this cruel world, he wished he was like 'every other boy'. He's so goddamn tired of the amount of hate he gets everyday for just being himself, sometimes he thinks of taking his own life so the pain would stop.

He can't even go to his parents to talk about it cause they're very spiritual and they'd also think he has a problem, no matter how he puts it, they'd never understand, he'd be like a mad person talking to them. They're also barely around.

Zuriel enters SSS2 class with a full knapsack on her back and drops it in front of Tope.

"I've started selling sweets" Zuriel brings out the pack out of her knapsack "since you guys casted me for collecting your money, I've decided to start making my own"

"Mummy, It wasn't me I swear" Tope crosses her heart.

"I know... Which is why I'm giving you half of this to sell for me"

"...but this is also illegal"

"Do you have money to give me?" Zuriel asks.

Tope didn't say a word and just collected her share.

"Buy for me na" Zuriel smiles and Tope laughs "I'm not joking"

Tope brings out 100naira and buys two pin pops for Zuriel.

Jason is in class secretly using his phone at the back when Timi walks in to talk to him, Jason hides his phone thinking it's one of the school's staff.

He feels relief when he finds out it's just Timi, He brings it out again.

Timi stands in front of him trying to get his attention. Jason stops what he's doing and looks at Timi.

"We can't keep fighting" Timi says.

"Who said we were fighting? I'm not fighting with anybody"

"I'm sorry for what I said, but I meant it, I don't want us doing anything... I just want us to be friends"

"OK" Jason says.

"Zino said he wants to see you, that's the main reason I came though" Timi adds.

"Alright I'd see him after.... Thanks for telling me"

Timi left feeling like he might have said the wrong thing but now has to live with it.
