The one thing I love about Summer is the feeling of peace.
After the flurry of exams, you have nothing to worry about for the next few months.
It's relief and peace all into one.
I lie down onto the grainy sand and sigh, it took a while to finally get to summer, but I'm absorbing it up as much as I can.
Nina lay next to me on her beach towel she was looking at the sky.
"It's beautiful here." Nina said.
"Yeah." I sighed dreamily.
"The clouds look weird today."
I smirked, Nina loved cloud watching.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"That cloud looks like a unicorn rolling a doughnut." she points out.
"No it looks like a cloud." I chuckle.
"You're no fun."
"Okay it looks like a big polar bear playing basketball."
"There you go you have it." Nina smiled.
"Have what?"
"Imagination." she drawls, she says doing a weird hand gesture.
"Uh huh, do you wanna get some ice cream?" I ask, I was yearning for a chocolate dipped cone.
"Yep all this imagining is making me hungry." Nina says, I laugh, only Nina.
We trek across the large expansion of the beach, the tide rolling in, the sky as blue as the ocean. It was so serene, so perfect.
We found a stand not far off, then I recognised a flop of sandy hair.
"Keegan?" I ask.
"Oh hey Shay!"
"What are you doing at this ice cream cart?"
"I work here." He says proudly, he's wearing a white polo shirt with an ice cream logo on it.
"Summer job?" I muse.
"Yep, Andy needed a cart boy and he gave me a job, it's 5 bucks an hour. An absolute steal." Keegan smiles.
Keegan has always been a hard worker, he always liked the idea of working. He was the paper boy, the busboy and now ice cream boy.
"What do you want the money for?" I ask.
"Mums birthday is coming up and she never has money to buy herself anything. I thought I would treat her, now I'm old enough." Keegan says.
I smile, Joanna, the Dukes mum is known to be the nicest and caring woman ever, but she never has time for her kids.
Their dad left, so Joanna had to take on a lot of work. The boys love her to bits regardless.
I know Troy worries about her, but he seems to find a mom in my aunt. She was the one who taught him how to paint, he's very close to her. The boys spend most of the time in the summer house. Scar is great company.
She has something that makes her mesmerising.
"That's sweet Keegan." Nina says.
"You guys enjoying the rays?" Keegan says.
