Surfing.
Not my cup of tea.
Why?
I may have fallen from the surfboard, I don't know like 8 times?
Needless to say my butt hurts and so does my pride. I was never great at surfing but I have gotten way worse.
If thats possible.
My balance is pathetic, and whats more pathetic is watching a ten year old surf like an expert and you face planting into the ocean.
So attractive.
Its so unfair, Nina was like a pro surfer apparently she practised a lot when she went to Hawaii. Why couldn't I have great surfing skills?
Oh yeah because I am me. I don't think I have seen three people laugh as much in one hour.
Humilating.
Nina and I were now getting ready for the campfire in the summer house. The Dukes had been invited around like old times to roast marshmallows and make s'mores.
I put on a light grey Tshirt dress and threw on a red plaid shirt with combats. I curled my hair into soft waves and put my contacts in. Nina put her hair in a high bun with a white skater dress and white converse, stunning as usual.
We gathered in the backyard which was basically like a forest, my dad was hauling some logs for a fire and my mum was setting up camp chairs around the nest of logs. Miss Duke was finishing up our meal for after our campfire get together.
Where was Scar?
She would usually be at the centre of all of this.
I left Nina with my mom and searched around.
Then I found her, not alone. She was sitting on the porch at the front of the house with Troy, both were taking swigs from beer cans. I frowned, my aunt never encourages drinking. It was weird.
I crept up to the porch, listening in. Yeah I am a nosy bugger deal with it.
"You excited to attend Stanford in the fall?" My aunt asked, peering at Troy. He seemed calm and distant, he was dressed in ripped jeans and an old t shirt.
"I guess.." Troy sighed.
"You guess?" My aunt laughed.
"Im worried about my mom, I mean she can barely afford my tuition money even with a scholarship and now she has to handle Keegan and Cam. Cam wants to go to NYU as well and -" Troy rambles, he frowns.
"Woah, woah! Troy you don't need to be worrying about all of this your mom has it under control. She knows she has to send you and Cam to uni, she will make ends meet." My aunt soothed rubbing his back.
"How? She works three jobs! And we still don't have enough, none of them pay her enough. And I'm 18, so I mean Im not a kid Scar." He slumps in his seat.
"Hey..I never said you were a kid. I just think your taking this on way too much. Your mom has savings and she is a wise woman, I have talked to her, we are sorting something out my dear. Don't worry, I promise you things will work out and you and your brothers will go to uni no matter what." Scar says in a deep tone.
"Thank you." Troy whispers.
"You need to give yourself some credit Troy. You've got top marks in your exams, your going to do Law at Stanford. Now its time to relax and enjoy being young. You don't need to be stressed anymore." Scar said. Troy nodded and hugged her, surprising Scar and me.
