Eda and Y/n had gone out for the day, in hopes to do more commissions to earn the money they never got for last commission. You'd think after finding a missing cart and 10 missing people you would get some kind of compensation but they didn't receive a dime.

In the meantime Hunter decided to explore around the Owl House. He knew they weren't home and he was hoping to find some things out about Y/n. Maybe a way to keep her out of Belos' hands.

He approached the house and immediately, Hooty shoots up from the ground. "Hey! You don't look like a good guy." Hooty says in a stretched tone. "You must be an intruder! INTRUDER! AWAY!" He swatted himself around to keep Hunter away and if anything, it only freaked him out. Hunter paralyzed Hooty and he dropped to the floor with his tongue hanging out of his beak. "Aaaa! Aaaaaaaaa!" He tried to call or torment but he couldn't move anything.

Hunter took his time to go in and look around. Not wanting to take anything but find some new knowledge for himself. He looked around the kitchen, in closets, the living room multiple times, bathroom, until he found a nearly empty room with some belongings he assumes to be Y/n's. He hummed in curiosity and went in to look around. There wasn't much. A blanket messily pushed against the wall and a bag in the corner. He decided to take a quick peek, hoping to see her possessions and find something out about her.

He sat on the floor and opened the bag. His palisman tried to pull him away, knowing what he was doing wasn't right, but he ignored him. Not caring very much.

The bag wasn't filled with much he thought looked valuable, but each item meant a lot to Y/n. There was a simple necklace, multiple books, a rock shaped like a heart and another shaped like a dinosaur. Hunter looked the the two rocks and laughed. "It's weird that she kept these. He dug a little more and found a folded sheet of paper that appeared to have writing on it. His curiosity got worse and he opened it up. But the writing was in bad shape. The note had worn down and the pencil marks smudged too much for it to be legible. "Bummer..." The red bird tweeted in disappointment. "I'm not snooping!" He tweeted again. "Okay, fine, but what does she have that she wouldn't want me to see? A couple books and a necklace are the only valuables she has and no one would ever be able to read this."

The bird landed on his shoulder and pecked his ear. "Ow! Okay! But I'm not leaving yet! I need a spell book or something!" The bird shook his head and went to rest on a ledge of a window.

Hunter put the stuff back then went searching through Eda's room for spell books about the passage to the human world or a way to get there itself. He searched for hours until he got bored and Hooty finally got the strength to move again.

"HOOT! You imbecile!" Hooty shouts and bites Hunters hand. "I have never felt so helpless! Get out of me right now!" He then grabbed him by his cape and threw him out the window. "And never come back!"

Hunter sighed in frustration. "What now?" Hunter's palisman flew down and landed on his shoulder and tweeted in his ear. "That thing doesn't seem like the type to listen."

The bird tweeted again, saying, "But if he saw what you were really trying to do then he might help you." Hunter shook his head, denying that to be true and just walked off.

Eda, King, and Y/n got home with newly earned money to find the mess Hunter had made. Eda looked around and panicked a little. "What happened? Who made this mess? Hooty!"

Hooty came in, annoyed, and answered her suspicions. "Yeah, that annoying Golden Guard came here, paralyzed me, and rooted through all your stuff."

Y/n's eyes widened and her eyebrows furrowed. "What?" She said with more air in her tone than voice, like her words were a gasp.

"Did he take anything?" Eda asks but Hooty shook his head. Y/n stood there in shock, not knowing what to do, and feeling betrayed and violated. "He was looking through all the books with information about the human realm."

Her stomach sank. "I trusted him." She whimpered.

Eda immediately went to comfort her. "Now, wait a minute, we always knew he was bad news, okay? Something was bound to happen no matter what." She says.

"No, it doesn't make sense." She states, calmly. "He let me go, he's been helping me. I know he's helping me." Her and King sighed. "If he's still looking for information on the human realm it's gotta be because Belos is making him, or mentally punishing/pushing him to follow directions. I can't see any other explanation. The dots don't connect."

Eda placed a hand on Y/n's shoulder. "Look, he's not a friend of us. He never was. If Belos is controlling him now then he will continue forever. The Golden Guard was never meant to be a good guy, and Belos is making sure of that."

"But you saw how he was with those people we rescued. How he was caring for that kid." She gulped. "Plus with us. You said it yourself that he's hiding things from Belos, that should say something that benefits us."

Eda got stern with her voice. "All I'm trying to say is it's a bad idea to trust someone like him. Why are you so worked up about this, you knew from the start you shouldn't trust him, I thought you were staying on your toes around him."

Y/n looked down in shame. "That commission trip let me see a different side of him. It made me think I can trust him and that maybe I would finally have a real friend and someone who will actually help me avoid Belos." She sighed in disappointment. "I didn't care for him so it's selfish anyway. But is it so wrong for someone like me to want a real friend?"

Eda sighed and hugged her. She felt quite bad for her actually. "I get it, but from now on, don't put your trust in him. In fact, don't hang around him anymore. You don't need his protection, you've been doing fine on your own for years." She smiled. "Plus, you live here now, and Hooty is an amazing guard."

Y/n takes a breath and let's it go. "Okay, you're right." She says. "But do you think he found anything about the human realm?"

"Nah, I don't think so. There's nothing in those books that helped me, their just the journals of people who went looking for it themselves." Eda says. "The human realm is safe."

"... We're using that scrying potion."

Hunter flopped down onto his bed with exhausted sigh. "I didn't get anything." His palisman tweeted. "Found nothing out about Y/n and nothin new about the human realm. What am I missing?" The bird landed on his forehead and looked directly into his eyes with a tweet. "Oh, uh... I'm just curious is all. There's nothing wrong with curiosity, right?" He says, unsure of himself. "Besides! The more I know about her the.... The easier it is to.. Connect with her." The bird stared at him a little annoyed. "It will benefit me, because the easier it is to protect her, the less I spend of trying to figure out how to..."

"You have no idea where you're going with this." The bird tweeted.

"Shut up. I know what I'm talking about." He sits up and walks over to his bookshelf.

"And the human realm?"

Hunter hesitates as he tries to think of a reasonable answer. "Well... You know, if I can have her stay in the human realm, she will be safe! That is if I am able to keep the portal away from Belos."

Bird tweeted a snarky remark and Hunter threw an eraser in his direction.
