12 - You Sound Ridiculous

"I find it funny how you guys are so relieved that I want to join a coven when you both refuse to." Y/n chuckles to her parents in a sarcastic tone.

"We just don't want you to live like us." Her mother says with a tilt of the head. "Not being in a coven, we could barely provide for you. If you were to join,  the emperor would help you."

"Then maybe you two should join a coven already, so that you don't have to live in fear."

Her dad shrugged with a flip on his newspaper. "Trust me, we have our reasons."

Golden Guard,
        My name is Y/n and I am interested in joining the coven. I understand that there are special requirements to being in the coven and I'm confident that I meet all of them. I also understand that this is an unprofessional way to find my way in but with all the people trying out this year, I'm afraid I will not stand out enough and I will be resented again. I was hoping to discuss some possibilities for me to show you what I've got so you can see that I am the perfect asset to the coven. All I'm asking is to chat over this, so please respond quickly. I have many things to show you.

The guard read the letter but laughed and immediately sent it back. "What a joke." They laughed to each other.

The letter came back to her in the mail and she stared at it for far too long before she got angry and threw a rock at a tree. This was the 3rd year she was rejected and she feared there would be no time left for the years to come. "Am I not good enough?" She asked herself, while staring at her handwriting.

She wiped the tears forming in her eyes with her sleeve and took a bag from her room, setting the letter in an outside pocket safely. "If you won't read my letters I'll make you listen to me." She scoffed and took off to the emperor's castle. She didn't know what she would do but she knew the guards weren't the smartest so sneaking in wouldn't be that difficult, but perhaps her sneaky skills would impress the coven leader finally.

She walked up to a guard guarding the entrance bridge and chatted with him as if she was lost. "Sir, do you know where Hexside is? I don't have a good sense of direction." She said, as a lie.

The guard sighed and looked away from her to point in the direction the school would be, but when he turned to face her again, she was gone. He looked around for a moment but shrugged it off, not bothering to look behind him to the bridge.

Y/n snickered the closer she got to the actual entrance and snuck in after another guard came out, so that the sound of the door didn't attract attention to her.

She had gotten in successfully and took the time to look a round the place, but not to a full extent. She still had to find Lilith or Belos, (maybe the Golden Guard).

It was until she got caught by a high ranking member that she began to panic. "Hey!" They barked from behind her and she turned around swiftly to see the golden owl-themed mask. "How did you get in here?" He demanded and stomped her way.

A smile crept on her face as she saw an opportunity. "Golden Guard! You must not remember me." She said, expressively spinning her palisman around in one hand.

He went to grab her wrist and drag her out of the castle but she grabbed him instead and spun him around to make him lose his balance. "I am not a professional kind of person but please, allow me to present myself to you." She bowed, like a ring leader presenting her performance. "This seems like the only way for me to get any of the Emperor's coven's attention."

He held his staff and shot a paralyze spell at her but she spun gracefully out of the way and grabbed his hand. "Don't interrupt, I promise it will get good." She yanked him past her and he fell to the floor, where she swung her palisman into his skull, but froze before making contact. "To me, this would be more than enough to convince me that I would be an amazing asset, but I'm glad to do more per request."

"Stop right there." A stern voice announced from behind Y/n. "I will not have you harass any of my coworkers. This is no way to behave if you want to be a part of the coven."

Y/n's smile dimmed a little as she stared down at Goldy who gripped her palisman tightly to avoid it pressing down into his throat. A crazed look in her eye appeared as her voice trembled. "Then why won't you just let me in..." She turns to Lilith. "I'm capable! You know that, so why do you always reject me!?"

A nervous sweat formed on Lilith's temple as she manifested a spell pointed right towards Y/n. "You should leave now... Before you miss your chance to say goodbye to your parents." The color drained from Y/n's face and she bolted out of the castle back home.

Her and Hunter stood there for a little too long. "Y/n?"

She stood up straight and laughed a little. "That's impossible and you know it." She says, throwing the pile of ripped up papers into his chest.

He takes a step back in shock but responds with determination in his eyes. "But if there is any possibility then I want to try." He says, with lots of emotions running through his head. "I'm sorry for intruding on your personal things, but I really do want to help you, and leaving the coven would be the first step."

"How?"

"How can I ever call myself your ally if I am one with the people you despise?" He asks her. "I don't care if you don't believe me; I am going to help you."

Her arms seemed to go limp and she sat down. "How are you planning on leaving..." She says. "Even I know it's impossible to leave a coven."

"I will find out a way!" He exclaimed. "If it means I can help you then I want to do everything I can!"

Y/n looked to the left and thought. He sounded crazy and she didn't know what came over him. "You're ridiculous for wanting to do something that big for someone like me." She chuckled and he just smiled, with a little embarrassment blushing his cheeks. "But I want to help." Hunter's face lit up. "So where should we start?"
