13 - First Find Attempt

A tall pile of old books made a loud thump as Hunter dropped them onto the center of the table. "Books!"

Y/n liked reading, but this was overwhelming. The pile was taller than Eda. "That is a lot."

"It's going to take a lot to find anything." He says and grabs the first one off the pile and hands it to her. "So let's get to reading."

She opens it and starts on the fist page. a highlighter on the table next to her just incase she found anything useful. They both had their hopes up but what they thought would be a couple hours turned into a full 24 hours. Though Hunter was starting to get frustrated, Y/n was really into it and had gone through twice the amount of books he has. There weren't any important details she's found yet, but she kept her patience.

She became curious about what Hunter had found so far so took a look through one of the books he read, which had multiple bookmarks. "Woah, you're reading all the good ones!" She says and skims through the area with the highlighted text, only to find it was useless information. "What is this? It's not helpful at all."

He turned his hands over to imitate a shrug. "What do you mean? It's what we're looking for?"

She pointed to a part he highlighted with an annoyed look on her face. "All it does is mention the topic; it gives no hints anywhere about what we need."

"Okay, sorry, I still think it's useful to have it." He snatched the book back and put it back in his pile and Y/n shook her head.

Eda walked in that morning and saw the two up at the table with their faces buried in books. "Were you two bookworms up all night? I thought she was mad at you." She said, confused, and she pointed to Hunter.

Y/n didn't take her eyes off the page but briefly explained the situation to Eda. "We're looking for a way to let him leave the Emperor's Coven. He already explained to me everything and apologized."

Hunter looked up from the book, his eyes barely open and he blinked at Eda as if the sun glared in his eyes. "It's already morning?"

"Plan on getting any sleep?" Eda asks and Y/n ignored her. "Well good luck, I guess."

Hunter let out a yawn which let some tears form in his eyes and Y/n threw her highlighter at his head. "Don't fall asleep!" She squawked at him, to which he threw it back at her.

"Hey, you two! It's been 2 days! Get some sleep!" Eda demanded at the two who had dominated the entire kitchen with notes and books and theories. "I want my kitchen back."

"Maybe you could help us." Y/n suggested.

Eda took one look at the pile of unread books and turned away. "Well, have fun, I'm leaving."

4 days went by and Hunter was starting to see things. "Hey... Maybe we should get some sleep? I'm starting to see 2 of you." He says before her head slid off her hand and she face planted into the open book. "Y/n!?" He got up and walked over to her to see if she was okay. She was breathing, but exhausted and passed out for good. "Dumbass."

He slid her chair out and picked her up, holding her like a child and did his best to keep his balance as he walked to the sofa in the living room. He was strong, but he was up for 4 days straight and that tends to affect you.

He laid her down on the couch as gently as possible and covered her with a blanket. "I hope she doesn't get sick from this." He says and tries to walk away to sit of the armchair but tripped over the leg of the coffee table and fell to the floor. He just stayed there, not willing to find the strength to get up. "I'm just gonna lay here for a moment." But he fell asleep like that.

Eda came back a couple hours later to see the situation and sighed at the mess they made and the dude laying on the floor carelessly. "Oh boy, how long is this going to take them?" She says and has Hooty put Hunter on the couch, opposite side from Y/n. His head sunk into the corner of the couch where his shoulders stuck foreword. One leg hanging off the couch with the other sticking up a little and his arms at his sides.

They really needed the rest.

Eda took a look at their work; skimming through the notes and bookmarks they made, a little interested to be honest. "They did all this in four days without rest? Impressive." Eda sat at the table, reading through some of the books to continue their work while they slept, even though she found nothing.

She sat for awhile to continue their work until Y/n woke up. "Hey kiddo. How did you sleep?" Eda asks, flipping through the pages.

Y/n sat up and rubbed her head. "I'm gonna head out." She says and grabs her palisman.

"Hey, you just woke up, where are you headed off to?" Eda asks, taking her feet off the table.

Y/n walked up to the table and searched for the book she was on before she passed out. "I found something that might be helpful. Someone in the night market might have a solution of some sort."

Eda read the page she held up to her.

"This grumpy old troll-like person; he wasn't pleasant to look at but he was wise. He claims to know the secret to unleashing yourself from the coven seal you have been places in. I am no man to believe everything that enters my ear but the idea is extravagant. Imagine the people it could help, or the shear power it could have on its own. Well, I don't want it for myself but just the idea is amazing."

Eda nodded. "It's worth a shot but you're forgetting one thing." Y/n tilted her head. "It's day." Y/n's head hung low. "Don't worry. We can wait and I'll go with you." She says.

"I'm so impatient though! Is there a way to find this guy outside the night market?" Eda shrugged.

Suddenly a groan was heard from the couch and they both looked over to see Hunter has awoken. Y/n immediately rushed over to him to show him her find. "Goldy! Look!" She sat in front of him and leaned forward, while shoving the book in his face. "Eda did some reading while we slept and found this. Some little guy at the night market might have a solution for you." She exclaimed with excitement in her voice. "We have to go tonight!"

Hunter felt a bit of excitement with this find and smiled widely. "Awesome! This is great! This is.. Uh." He stopped after getting too loud and cleared his throat. "Yes, we'll go tonight."

Y/n hopped up and celebrated while he admired her dedication. She seemed more dedicated than him. It made him curious but more grateful than anything. "What time is it? 3? We'll go to town and collect cash so that when we find this guy we'll have the money to get the item."

They all nodded and prepared to head out, but just before they were about to leave a strange noise emitted from the far end of the room. They all turn their heads to see and what they saw was ominous and strange. They got defensive and readied their palisman.
