Author's Note: How lucky are you guys to receive another chapter? So the first part of this chapter is taken out of Chapter One of Lullaby but then half way through it it changes. I'm just doing this so I can kick start Harper's journey to find Gemma. After this her journey will rely solely on my imagination.

Reminder- I don't own Lullaby. Amanda Hocking does.

Harper woke up when the sun was just beginning to set, and squinted at the dim orange light streaming in through the curtains.

For one moment - one brief, glorious moment- she'd forgotton about the night before, the night when her little sister had been attacked before turning into some kind of mermaid and disappearing in the ocean.

Then it all came back to her. Her head throbbed at the memory, and she squeezed her eyes shut.

After Gemma had swum away, leaving Harper alone on the dock at Bernie's Island, Daniel had checked on Alex to make sure that he was all right.

When they'd arrived at the cabin, Alex had been lying unconscious on the floor. Harper hadn't seen what had happened, but it wasn't hard for her to imagaine.

A horrible bird-like creature stood over him. Its mouth was filled with razor-sharp teeth, and massive black wings stretched out behind it.

Then it had shifted, changing form into a different kind of monster-the beautiful Penn.

It was almost impossible for Harper to wrap her mind around. When Alex had come to, he'd been certain the things he remembered were a bizarre dream brought on by trauma.

But Harper and Daniel had been forced to tell him that it was all true. The monsters were real, and Gemma was gone.

Harper was miserable. That was obvious. She had alerted their father, Brian. Telling him that Gemma had run off. Not exactly a lie, but not the whole truth either.

Visible pain and sorrow could clearly be seen among the faces of Gemma's family. They had nothing. No information on where Gemma and the girls were.

At least not yet...

Harper sighed. Clear frustration evident in her features.

Harper wouldn't stop searching. Not until Gemma was here. Her home, and with her.

Well that's what she kept telling herself. A blinking red light beeped.

Taking her phone and checking for messages. Since Gemma had left her phone here-any calls she would make would be unknown numbers.

Alas- only one voice message and it was Daniel.

Getting up from her bed.

She hurriedly changed her clothes-that had smelt like the salt of the ocean. And headed downstairs only to be met with Alex.

Harper really felt bad for the guy. Knowing that he felt the same as her. He would do anything to see Gemma return, the thought bringing a small smile to her lips.
