Mrs. Zacky, Zacky, the whole Martin family, the Daniels Family along with Demelza helped prepare the barn for the reception. Ross and Joshua thought it may be good to have a bonfire after all it was the beginning of March, holding with the saying of 'in like a Lion' to be true. The storms seamed to be coming in making everything extra cold. Demelza asked Joshua one evening, when Ross was out if they could go to town the next day as she was hoping to get some flowers for Jenny and pick them up a small gift maybe a set of sheets. Joshua told her someone would escort her, she went off to tell Jenny she was taking a bath and if she so desired she could wash up also. She also want Jenny to help her comb her hair out!
Ross came home a little later and found his father going over the books. He told Ross he would like to open Wheal Grace but needed to find out what the accounts at Pasco's looked like. Ross told his father he would be glad to do it as he was expecting his Doctor friend to be arriving soon. Joshua told him "Demelza needs to have an escort in because she wants to pick up some flowers for Jenny and a small gift"! Ross replied as long as she doesn't mind waiting on the Coach from London he would escort her.
The next morning Demelza woke up and got dressed she braided her hair and then tried to create some kind of bun in the back. She went out and found Jenny already setting breakfast.  Ross looked up and said "are you ready for your excursion into town?" Demelza was taken aback, "I was thinking Mr. Joshua would be accompanying me today?" Ross smirked, "No, sorry but I will have that pleasure. Demelza lost her appetite, she then looked at Jenny "could you please help me with my braid Jenny I don't know if I have enough pins in it." Ross spoke up "I like your hair worn down, it is a spectacular color and looks so soft!" Joshua looked up at his son with a slightly bewildered look! Ross looked at his father and said, "What" as Demelza blushed.
The ride into Turro was quit and pleasant, Ross asked Demelza about her family. He asked what she liked doing the most, she told him that cooking and the gardening. He asked why that was and she told him cooking reminded her of Mam and gardening because of a older lady who taught her about herbal remedies.  She told him that they thought Maggy Das was a witch but she knew what herbs was the best for Loose bowels, or which ones to use if you were bound up. She said which would draw out poison, or which would help with child birth. Before they knew they had entered Turro. Ross suggested they look for the gift for Jenny and Jim first, Demelza told him she was thinking of sheets. Ross "Do we not have sheets enough at Nampara"? Demelza told him "yes we do but everything there belongs to Nampara nothing is truly theirs, she thought it would be nice to have something for themselves! Ross could definitely see the reason to that.  So they went in an picked a delicately embodied set of sheets for the newly wed. Next Ross said they should go and see Pasco the banker to check on the funding for Wheal Grace.
Ross introduced Demelza to Harris Pascoe, Demelza chose to sit out in the outer office while Ross and the banker discussed the financial position for opening the old mine. Pascoe then offer that Ross and Demelza enjoy the evening meal with him and his daughter if they were still in town. Ross told him that all depended on what time the coach came in from London. Then he told him of bringing in the doctor he served with. Pascoe said to bring him along also.  When that was done they went to purchase the flowers. When they came out they were walking around town, seeing the dress shop she asked Ross if she could go in she wanted to get Jenny something else. Ross went into the dress shop with her. Demelza looked sideways at Ross when the lady offered to help her she told the lady she would like a night rail that a person would wear right after having a babe. Ross looked at her blushing face and started to laugh at her. The sale clerk brought a nice nightgown out with delicate flowers around the neck. Ross paid for it and when they turned around they came face to face with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth said "Ross what an unexpected delight in seeing you?" Ross took Demelza's package and said "you remember my fathers ward Demelza, do you not?" Elizabeth said "yes"as she bent her head, which Demelza returned.
Elizabeth looked at the package and asked "what would bring you into a seamstress shop?" Ross told her "Demelza has bought a wedding gift." Elizabeth nodded "of course who better then to advise her then my first love?" Demelza smiled and said "it's for our farm hand and servant!" Elizabeth said "Prudy and Jud finally getting married?" Ross said "Father no longer employs them, he has hired Jim Carter and Jenny Martin!" Elizabeth was shocked, there was many times her and others tried to get Joshua to release them but said they were his friends and always have a home there. Ross saw the coach going through town and decided they would need to see if Dwight was on it! " Excuse me Elizabeth but Demelza and I must go!" They bowled to her and she returned the jester to mostly Ross. Ross didn't notice but Demelza did. Demelza thought she was birthed the same way I was she is no better, in fact she should be thought of less because of her loose morals.
Dwight was on the coach, when Ross saw him he hurried forward and gave him a hug slapping him on the back which Dwight returned. Dwight saw Demelza and Ross remembered her standing behind him. Dwight said "this is your wife Ross?" Demelza blushed and Ross said "goodness no" This is my fathers ward Demelza Carnes, Demelza this Dwight Enys the surgeon who put me back together in America!" Ross noticed how Dwight eyes took in Demelza as he lifted her hand to his mouth. Dwight said "at your service Miss!" Ross had an intense urge to punch his friend in his face, he didn't know why he felt that way so he put Demelza's hand on his arm and said "we had a friend invite us to dinner and it would do you well to meet him. He owns a small bank in Turro, he has been my fathers banker and friend for years and he is mine also!" Ross noticed that Dwight was still watching Demelza which made him move her to his other side away from Dwight.
Entering Pascoes house his daughter Joan greeted them, then Harris joined them. Ross introduced Demelza to Joan and then Dwight to both Joan and Harris. They sat down to supper and Joan asked variable of questions from Dwight, while not being impolite he answered as best he could, he was shy by nature. Dwight also realized the Ross was intervening between his attempts to conversing with Demelza. Finally Dwight had to ask"Ross were you not to be married, when will I meet your intended?" Ross replied "she is engaged to my cousin and will be married next week!" Joan spoke up saying "she has only ever wanted what would increase her status, her family is poorer then the miners, yet she holds them in contempt. Ross I believe you are better off without her!" At this point Harris cleared his throat to get his daughters attention. Joan had tried a long time ago to get Ross's attention but Elizabeth needed any male in the vicinity to be hers and hers alone to admire her. She also new Elizabeth didn't care for any of them!
After they ate, Joan, her mother and Demelza retired to the parlor to have tea. Once there Joan wanted to know if she thought Dwight was attractive. Since he most certainly did her. Demelza told her she guess he was but she was in no hurry to become attached to any man. Joan then asked about Ross, when Demelza blushed, Joan had her answer! Demelza told her that he maybe handsome but his heart was still attached to Elizabeth's.
Ross, Dwight and Harris all had their Brandies. Harris agree to get Dwight more patients and Dwight said he would like Harris to be his banker. They left the Pascoes while they still had time to get back to Nampara before the sunset.
Ross told Dwight he would stay at Nampara and tomorrow they would look for lodging for him. Dwight mentioned he believed in herbal medicine, when Demelza heard this she told him of some of Maggie Das remedies? Dwight and Demelza talked almost the whole way home finding new ways to cure different ailments. By the time they were home Ross was in a rare black mood. 
Going into the house Demelza went into where Joshua was setting. Dwight and Ross followed him in. When Ross didn't introduce Dwight. Joshua said "you must be the surgeon that helped Ross in America?" Ross regained his senses and introduced his father and friend. Joshua asked "well what did you purchased Demelza?" "I got sheets for Jim and Jenny, then a night rail for Jenny, and flowers to make a crown for Jenny and a bouquet for her to carry." She was so excited about her purchase she excused herself to put them away.
Joshua noticed Ross's bad mood and asked "did something happen today?" Ross glared at his father "no!" Dwight said "I think it has something to do with me! didn't realize Ross had feelings for Demelza!" Joshua said "since when Ross?" Ross glared at Dwight "She is only sixteen and not old enough to have gentleman showing interest in her that is all!" Dwight snicked "okay then Ross once she turns seventeen I will start my pursuit!" Joshua roared "no one will be pursuing my ward until I say so, is that clear?" Ross and Dwight both nodded the affirmative!
