Demelza went in with Melza, Maggy and Mary, Melza looked at her and said, "child what be wrong?" Demelza smiled, "tis nothin, just a bit of the green-eyed monster." Maggy said, "it may be best to talk to your husband on that concern. I have seen many a marriage fall apart because of a shrewd person trying to enable false facts. Demelza said, "I should trust him though, I think marriage is like going to church you either believe or you don't. If you do then your faith remains strong, if you don't what is the sense of a going at all. All three woman nodded their approval, but Maggy was trying to come up with a solution that would aid her niece in chasing that woman away.

Ross came into the kitchen and grabbed Demelza's hand asking if she would like to go for a walk. She agreed. They went to the beach and Demelza was naturally led to the Holy well cave. Ross and her went inside and Demelza heard, The evil one be back. She is in the inner chamber; you must be quick to dispel her before she works up the potion. Demelza walked quickly, Ross was having a hard time keeping up. When she came upon Alyse she saw Elizabeth was with her. They both started speaking nastily to Demelza. Ross heard them but stood out of site seeing what they were saying to his wife. Elizabeth said, Ross has let me back in as his friend now it will only a short time until he will be mine. Alyse said, I will make sure I will give her the potion to drive him to her arms. That was all Ross needed to hear.

"Elizabeth," Ross said, "I offered you my friendship and this is how you repay me by sneaking around with this whore." Alyse said, "you didn't think that badly while we were beast with two backs," she laughed. What are you turning into a Jerry sneak? I would never have thought it possible, Alyse snickered. Once you belong to Mistress of Trenwith, I can be you eft-handed wife.
While they were trading insults with Ross, the fairies were calling Melza and Maggy to the cave. They were spinning spells to keep the three mortals occupied until the two elders could show up. With Demelza there they could zap Alyse's knowledge of evil spells she was not a fairy but had enough knowledge to be dangerous. Demelza finally spoke "how do you suppose to do potions are you a witch Alyse, is that how Elizabeth got that wart?" Elizabeth looked at Alyse, "did you do this to me? What of the rain is that your doing to?" Alyse sniggered, "might have been." Of course, Demelza knew the truth but would not tell them that.
The fairies said, the elders are here for you to see, you are the blessed be. When Melza and Maggy walked in Ross, Elizabeth, and Alyse, blinked, they went into a trance. Demelza said, "she was mixing a potion to give to Ross to make Elizabeth irresistible to her." Melza said, "come here child we need your power," Demelza said, "I have no power." The fairies sang in song, "You must believe you are the blessed be. Take the power of the evil two and cast away their coup."
Melza said, "come child we need thee. First lets cast out the evil powers that the young one has stollen. You must repeat exactly what we say and then draw the power from within."
Evil comes in forms unknown
But it should always stay forlorn
For if you practice hurt on others
There will be no hope for a grieving mother.
You practiced the with the devils curses
Now Fairy's will forbid those forces.
Begone all knowledge of evil persist
Now your powers no longer exist.

They repeated it three times and had the fairies lead Alyse out, taking her memory of the evil with them.

Now lets focus on this one. Maggy said, I would like to lead this one. Same thing but this time we need to say it five times holding hands. Demelza, you need to turn around at the end.
Bless with beauty but you are tainted be
It hides your evil within you see
We cannot allow men to be fools

At the end Demelza said, "did we just take her beauty away." Maggy said, "it will come back if she learns to be gracious, though I don't hold out a lot of hope for that one." The fairies lead Elizabeth out of the cavern. Then Melza and Maggy took their leave. The Fairies saying, "The elder come, the elder see, the elders fix the problems for we." Once the two older women left, Ross snapped out of it. He said, "where did Alyse and Elizabeth go." They left you stopped talking. I do believe Alyse is a witch." Ross laughed and pulled Demelza close, since there is no one here, let us do the amour congress. The fairies giggled saying "our blessed be made a joke, her beloved wants to poke, we want to see we want to see!" Demelza said, "Judas Ross, No." Ross kissed her again and said, "well lets head back to our bed that will be all that will be said." Demelza narrowed her eyes, why was he speaking in riddles. The fairies laughter rang through the cave.
When they got back to the house Mary, Melza and Maggy were all busy. Mary looked upset. She pulled Demelza aside and said, "the other two took off for a while leaving me to do all their chores." Demelza knew Melza and Maggy did more than their share, so she told Mary, "I gave them a chore I needed done. I hope you were not to inconvenienced." She was going to leave when she turned and said, "Mary, Alyse was in the Holy Well cave on the property please remind her she is not to be on Nampara land."
Mary was perturbed first they turned Alyse out, then Anne now they were both selling themselves. It was all these uppity Poldark's. Well, she would just talk to Joshua, if he kept wanting to sample her wares, he would have to do something about that busy body girl. Jenny came later that afternoon and asked Demelza to go for a walk with her. She said, "I fear I have done you a great injustice Demelza." Demelza laughed, "oh how did you do that?" "By bringing Jim's mother and sisters in. His mother is complaining about you favoring the two new maids. She has even had Alyse at our home. Jim told her he didn't want her there, but his mother said it be her home to and she wanted her daughters about. Jim and I don't know what to do. We love working and being here with you and your family, but I fear she is up to something with her daughters." Demelza remembered about Mary's preoccupation with witches and fairies. She wanted to ask Jenny, but she had to be careful. "Jenny has Mary ever dabbled in potions and what not." Jenny went white. "Wh Why do you ask?" "Well, she mentioned it to me a couple of times that is all," Demelza said. Jenny nodded, "she feels she is blessed with powers from the four corners." "Oh" said Demelza that explains Alyse's knowledge. Jenny turned to Demelza, "be careful she blames you for Alyse and Anne turning to prostitution."
When Demelza got back she went in and called Melza up to her room. She told her the conversation she had with Jenny. Melza said," Maggy and I already had been watching her from the time we arrived. You are right to be worried, I fear that is where her daughters evil are coming from. Which if she is now leading the younger one." Demelza felt heartsick. She said, she is such a nice girl. What can we do?" Melza said Mag and I will work on it. You need to rest a ceremony like we did today will zap your strength." Demelza questioned, "what about yours?" Melza said, "we are not the blessed be. You have more power we used yours to cast those spells. Our powers do not extend to allowing us to do that."
Demelza was laying down when Ross came in, "are you unwell my love?" Demelza sat up, "just tired seeing Elizabeth an Alyse working together to try to woo you away from me upset me that is all. Ross you can't seriously want to be friends with her, do you?" Ross said, "I was considering it because of our past but seeing her and hearing her say those things showed me she isn't to be trusted." Demelza thought awhile "what if she gets someone like Alyse and figure out something that will make you betray me." Ross kissed her saying, "never will happen." Demelza said, "you don't know that?" Ross grumbled because of her lack of interest, "what I am not allowed having female friends." Demelza was hurt, she just didn't want him to be friends with her. She got up off the bed and walked out of the room. Ross followed her, "Demelza wait." She continued down to the kitchen where she got supper started. Ignoring Ross's advances and trying to draw her into conversation.

Drake came running in he said, "there is rain coming you can see it coming up from Trenwith." Ross went out to look. He came back in and said, "it is the strangest thing. It is a moving rain cloud." Drake laughed saying, "must be Elizabeth." Ross looked at Demelza, who dried her hands and went back upstairs. Ross sat at the table wondering how he was going to get back in the good graces with his wife. Maggy came by and said, "well it isn't going to be by holding court with the likes of Elizabeth." Ross was taken aback did she just read his mind? Maggy walked away like she didn't say anything. Melza said, "someone be at the door." Ross said, "I will answer it."

As soon as he answered the door Elizabeth threw herself at him. "I am so sorry Ross, that Alyse must have put a spell on me to say those things. I would never try to betray you like that." Demelza had her door open and was listening. Elizabeth, my wife, and I discussed this, and we both believe that trying to be your friend would only ensure heartache for you. I love my wife." Elizabeth said, "so you are turning into a Jerry sneak?" "Ross I only want what we had before friendship maybe some intimacy, you know how good I can make you feel nobody needs to know," Elizabeth said while moving her hands onto Ross's chest. Ross took her hands off his chest he noticed how dry and cracked they were. "Elizabeth what have you been doing your hands they are in horrible shape." Elizabeth pulled them back, "they are no worse than your wife's." Ross said, "I believe Elizabeth you should leave; I do not have the feelings I once had for you. I love my wife; she is the love of my life." Elizabeth looked up and saw Demelza standing there. She said, I know you Ross more than anyone else you will always love me as I love you. Come see me tomorrow and we can discuss a beast with two backs." Ross walked her out Demelza looked out the window and saw Elizabeth kissing her husband and her husband with his hands on her hips.
Melza went up to Ross and said, "that girl be trouble for you and your marriage." Ross said, "that is enough my marriage is not your concern." Melza narrowed her eyes, "aye but the mistress is." She turned and walked away. Ross decided he would go back to the mine. Once he was gone Demelza went back downstairs. She decided she would go for a walk. She walked up to Dwight's cottage, there was a tall slim woman coming out. If she remembered correctly, it was Caroline Pendvenon. Demelza greeted the lady by bowing her head, and Caroline reciprocated. Dwight said, Demelza what do I owe the pleasure. She shrugged, just needed a friend. Caroline raised an eyebrow. Mistress Poldark do you always seek other men's company when your husband is at work. Dwight said, Caroline, that is uncalled for. Demelza saw the jealousy in Caroline's eyes. She knows what if feels like to be threatened by another woman's admiration of their intended or love interest. She said, "no Ms. Pendvenon but Dwight can give me council on my husband that few other could. You are welcome to stay with us if you want?" Caroline felt totally uncouth, I apologize for my jealousy, I feel far inferior to your beauty." Demelza said, "judas, it is not all that great." Caroline said, "nether the less accept my apologies, now I really must leave." Demelza said, "Ms. Pendvenon, if you feel like it, I would welcome you for tea sometime?" Caroline said, "I would love to, thank you."

Once she was gone, Dwight said, "what has Ross done now?" Demelza sat with Dwight all afternoon talking about things and him giving her comfort. He told her that Ross is someone that finds it hard to take commands from. He feels it is his right to do what he wants. No matter who it hurts, in a way he is a male version of Elizabeth. Demelza questioned whether Elizabeth and Ross not better suited for each other. She could not and would not live that way. She said, "my mother said to my own self be true and having a husband that was unfaithful would go against everything in me." Dwight told her he didn't believe that to be the case. Demelza brought out the better in Ross. Ross just had to see it. Demelza was just leaving when Ross rounded the hill. He saw his wife leaving Dwight's. Dwight's arms engulfed her, and he kissed her forehead. They looked up when they heard Ross's horse, Ross said, "isn't this a surprise my wife with my friend, who has admired her since he met her." Dwight said, "Demelza needed someone to talk to seems her husband is encouraging a friendship with his old flame." Demelza saw the two men getting heated and she said, "thank you for your counsel, Dwight and keeping my confidences." She then said, "you are both asses," and walked away. Both men stared open mouthed as she stormed down the lane.
