Each day King Demetrius planned that Ross needed to attend to show him different places in Cornwall. He wanted to see the shipbuilding. The smelting company, each day as they returned home, the carriages would be leaving and each one told the king, in front of Ross, that they would love to marry Demelza and have many children with her and would raise the one she carried now. Each day he got angrier and angrier he was ready to tell the King to take all his fairies and leave the only thing stopping him was the fear he would take Demelza with him. Demelza had not yet met anyone she wanted more than her current husband but it seemed he was moving further and further away from her. He still had not requested that Elizabeth not come Demelza found out accidentally while she was in the barn visiting her horse that Joshua had requested all hexes, spells, and anything thing else that was done to Elizabeth be stopped. She overhears Drake and Willie talking about it, saying if Ross chooses Elizabeth what will happen to us? "If she goes with the Grandfather, will we have to go too," Drake asked. Willie said, "I don't know but Ross doesn't seem too interested in sister at the moment he is always going somewhere or doing something." Demelza could not listen anymore, she walked to Damsel Point, She was supposed to have another visitor by the name of Laird John Mitchell, but she didn't have the heart to sit and listen to him talking about himself. It seemed that's all they did.

Ross had told Demetrius that he had to go to Grambler and check in on how the new shaft was progressing, he pointed to Sam and told him Sam will be your guide today. He was coming back from Gambler for he wanted to be at the house if any of his wife's suitors came. He saw a figure walking in the distance. As he drew closer, he saw her long auburn hair blowing about her face. His breath caught in his chest, was she going to meet the man here instead of at the house? He dismounted Darkie he knew she would not stray far all he needed to do was whistle and she would come. He quietly went toward his wife. He stopped and watched her sit. She was so beautiful how could he live without her; she was everything he needed and wanted. She sat on the rock overlooking Damsel Point then he heard her voice which he thought a siren of the sea would sound she sand Some Rival Has Stollen My True Love Away.

Some rival has stolen my true love away,
So I in Old England no longer can stay;
I will swim the wide ocean all round my fair breast
To find out my true love whom I love best.

When I have found out my true love and delight
I'll welcome him kindly by day or by night;
For the bells shall be a-ringing, and the drums
make a noise
To welcome my true love with ten thousand joys.

Here's a health to all lovers that are loyal and just!
Here's confusion to the rival that lives in distrust!
But it's I'll be as constant as a true turtle dove,
For I never will, at no time, prove false to my love.

Then he heard her sob and say, "Oh Ross, how can I go on you own my heart." Ross walked up behind her and said, "Demelza may we talk." She shook her head not trusting her voice she would not look at him. He sat beside her and placed his arms around her shoulders. They state there silently watching the waves of the ocean for a very long time. Ross finally spoke, "I spoke to Francis, he told me he could not come to the ball, then he told me that Elizabeth would attend. I told him the invitation was not for Elizabeth it was for him and his wife. He told me that if I didn't want Elizabeth there, I would have to tell her. I have not to desire to speak to her and as Francis said she would not be deterred from coming anyway. I don't know how to fix what my recklessness has broken. Please tell me what to do to fix this." Demelza shakes her head, "I don't know any more if you can. Ross, I know she was your first love a love you have carried with you for a very long time. You told me you don't love her but your actions prove differently to me. She comes around and then you to speak and laugh of old times she throws herself in your arms and you do not try to disengage. What am I to think? You have seen how she treats me and yet you only get involved when someone shows animosity against her. When have you ever defended me against her? I am tired of fighting for the kind of love you seem to hold for her. I do know I do not want and I can tell you I can never see myself as wanting a friendship with her."
