"So, Violet. Tell us about yourself," Jimin said, leaning his chin on his palm as his elbow rested on the table.
I crossed my legs under the table while my hands went to my lap to keep myself from fidgeting. A bad habit I had when I got nervous.
"Well I'm originally from Busan, but I've lived here for the last ten years. I recently graduated from college with a degree in marketing and communications."
Yoongi held out a bottle of red white and raised an eyebrow. I nodded and watched him pour some in the glass in front of me. I reached for it when he was done and wrapped my fingers around the base of the wine glass.
"Thank you," I said softly. He nodded and poured himself some as well. I took a drink and hummed in delight. The juicy, slightly tart taste coated my tongue. This had to be on the more expensive side of the wine scale.
"Marketing and communications? Wow, that's impressive," Jin said with raised eyebrows. He was pouring himself a glass as he spoke and I grinned.
"Thank you. It's a passion of mine, but I wish someone would have told me how scarce the job in that field is. It's hard to put your degree to use when there isn't anywhere to use it." I laughed lightly, hearing a chorus of soft chuckles throughout the table.
"So is that why you applied for this job?" Namjoon's question hit a soft spot, but I didn't let it show. Instead, I cleared my throat and tilted my head.
"Actually, I had a job similar to my degree but the company just recently went under, so they had to let everyone go."
I was staring into my wine as I spoke, and when no one responded, I looked up, immediately regretting my confession. All of their eyes were full of pity and sadness and I swallowed thickly.
"Um, I'm okay, I swear. And I wasn't telling you that in hopes that you'd pity me or anything. I really didn't think that throu-'' My rambling (another nervous habit) was cut off when a hand landed on the one still in my lap.
I looked down, then over at Tae. My eyes were slightly widened but he was smiling softly. "Violet, it's okay. It didn't sound like a pity story." A quick glance around the table reassured me that the rest felt the same and I sighed softly in relief.
The last thing I wanted was to get this job by default. I may have needed it, but I was a prideful woman. Sometimes to a fault.
A soft greeting from behind me turned our attention to our waiter who had come to take our orders. With Tae's hand still on mine, I used my free one to open the menu. I leaned toward Yoongi who didn't hesitate to lean my way as well.
"Okay, what's good? Because I totally didn't look at the menu." He chuckled and took the small book from my hand, opening it to a section without looking. Just how often did they eat here?
