"Angel?"

A yelp of surprise left my lips when a warm hand landed on my shoulder. I fisted the material of the shirt over my heart and let out a harsh exhale. My eyes narrowed into slits as I spun around to look at Namjoon, a slightly remorseful, but overall amused, expression on his face.

"Sorry, Violet. I tried calling your name, but it didn't look like you heard me." He quickly glanced at my desk, and I pointed to the piles of paperwork that covered the surface.

"Oh, yeah. I guess I was really zoned in." I made a show of pushing them away and tilted my head back with a grin. His dark eyes met mine, and he smiled. "Is everything okay?" I asked, my full attention now on him.

He raised a brow. "I was going to ask the same question. You've been... Jumpy lately." I felt my smile grow from his concern, but then he added, "I mean, you're always jumpy. Kind of like a cat or something, but lately it's been more than normal."

Wow. Way to ruin a thoughtful gesture.

Putting aside being compared to a cat, he had a point. I wasn't the most attentive person. Anyone could've snuck up on me from any distance, and if I didn't already know they were there, I'd jump about two feet in the air when they finally attacked. I was the perfect victim for practical jokes and jump scares; knowledge well known and often abused by the guys... But Namjoon was right.

Lately, I wasn't just on edge... I was anxious. Agitated.

And I knew why.

After my date with Jimin, which was a few days prior, I had been experiencing the worst nightmares I'd had to date. Every night for a week, I woke up drenched in sweat. My body was trembling from head to toe. My nerves were shot.

Though rare, the nightmares I'd had in my life never made me feel so... Scared. Without fail, every single one of them for days straight was bloody, terrifying and always ended the same- with me dead.

Last night was no different.

My feet pounded against the ground as I ran as fast as I could. Large trees-taller than any I'd ever seen-surrounded and cloaked me in an eerie, silent darkness. Shadows moved in and out of the gaps. I wasn't sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me, or he was.

My breaths came out in choked sobs and my lungs burned for air that wouldn't come. Tears rolled down my cheeks as a sinister laugh sounded behind me, bouncing off of the wall of darkness and making it impossible to tell where it came from.

I ran faster.

My arms pumped at my sides, and I caught a flash of red. Disappearing, appearing. Disappearing, appearing. I glanced down when it appeared again and gasped. My skin, from the tips of my fingers to the crook of my elbow, was smothered in a thick, red blanket of blood. An iron-like smell wafted into my nose and it triggered something in my brain. My feet came to a stop while I stared down at my hands in horror.
