Lavina hit her pencil down as she waited for her second period to start. Then the bell rang and everyone sat down.
"Welcome back class! Nice to see you all this wonderful Tuesday morning." She paused and turned around, she began the lecture. "Today we dip into the world of the ancients, as we look to Cordelia." She wrote the name on the board. "Cordelia lived quite a long time ago, back in the fourteen hundreds. During this time everyone was separated. Marked lived together in a space and the Elves lived in a different space, for example. During that time gender and race stereotypes were strictly enforced and followed. With Marked at the top of the list, and male as the dominant gender." She turned around and looked at the class. "We don't have much information on the subject of Cordelia herself, no records were really kept of her time. But it is said that her family had passed down the legend of the chosen one. The story changed over time and eventually was lost, but one thing was always clear. That there would be another chosen one, excluding what time and who they could be. They didn't say a gender or what person they thought would bear the child, just that another person would be born with the mark of chosen. We didn't even know what they were supposed to do." She tapped her wand to the board, to a name she had kept on that board. "Many of you have probably heard her by the name of Amilia Cripple. Her Catonin equivalent is Nsefen Hmeqqfk. For the sake of our studies we will refer to each of her names independently. But that will come at another time. Mrs. Cripple filled in the gaps for us after the witch Unora Ashanti gave her hints about her purpose." The elf stopped a moment to write the name on the board. "Remember this name, she plays a big role in Mrs. Cripple's life. Any questions?" She said, waving her wand around. "Yes, Seyn?"
"What race was Cordelia?"
"She was a pure Marked. Anyone else?" No one raised their hand and the teacher continued on. "In our present we have learned about the past events that transpired. Cordelia was born with one of the most odd and rare marks in history, the chosen mark. Only two recorded in history, no doubt it will strike again in the future. Cordelia was trained as all the special marked children were. She knew how to fight and use her abilities. She did not need to use them though until she was an adult. Back in the times there was a tyrant magic user who spread fear and disease wherever he went. It was said that Cordelia had dealt with him, stripping him of his magic and banishing him to the deep, keeping a close eye on him in case he wanted to make any moves. Due to their battle Cordelia's life was cut nearly in half. She was the first Marked to die at the age of ninety. As a result of this she was not around when the siege of the magic kingdoms occurred. An event we will get to later. After that battle Cordelia prophesied that there would be another with her mark, who would have to do something. What is that something you ask?" She turned around and paused for dramatic effect. "Mrs. Cripple later figured out that Ms. Ashanti knew about the prophecy all along and tried her hardest to prevent it from coming true. Mrs. Cripple told us that the prophecy Cordelia had spoken about was that the next chosen one would defeat the most powerful witch of their era." She stopped and then sat down at her desk. "I would like you all to go ahead and give me a depiction of Cordelia and what you think she was like as your homework. Saying that, I would like to see a drawn picture from each of you, and yes, it can be as simple as a stick figure. Some key traits you think she had and a paragraph of what you think she was like and how her life was. Please keep it short though, a page maximum." The bell rang and everyone packed up their things. Lavina grabbed her bag and put her pencils and pens away. Then she put her pack on and walked out the door.
"Hey, hey!" She heard from behind her. They had lots of time to get to their next classes. The school ran like a college, so all your classes weren't on the same day. They had fifthteen minutes to get from class to class, or to chat with friends. The campus wasn't too big, but the adminstarters liked to focus on student relationships more than anything else. Lavina stopped a moment and turned around to look at him. "You're Lavina Ozedk, right?"
