My dad showed me around the house. He had already shown me the dining room, living room, and the finished basement. Which was really just for watching football (Soccer). Along with drinking and partying. He showed me where his office was. Him and his wife's room, my "Siblings" room, not the inside rooms though. Lastly it was he showed me my bedroom. Let me tell you something, my new room was a million times the size of my tiny apartment back in NYC.
"This is your room if that's okay" My dad asked, I stood looking around in awe of this beautiful room.
" I made sure it was one of the farthest from everyone else's room. For you and Maggie to feel more comfortable."
" Yeah, that's good, does Uncle Paul live here?"
"Yes he does, he lives a couple doors from you. Just in case."
"Just in case?"
"Yeah in case you need help for anything."
Mmhm I call bullshit. I put together a lot of things over the years and found out what and who my dad really is. He's the leader of the Italian Mafia. Some of his family are immigrants from Italy. My Grandma and all of her kids moved to the United States when my dad was a baby. Leaving my grandpa behind. My grandparents hated one another. I used to listen to the adults having conversations about my grandpa over the years. They didn't know that though. Obviously I knew he was rich and very into his "work". But I never knew he was the leader. I had no clue what and who the Mafia was because I was so young. My dad left to take care of his father because he was slowly dying. Once he died my dad never came back. I did some research in college as a freshman and I put it all together. My major was history. So I knew how to find what happened in history really well. (I wanted to become a history teacher because my mother was one).
"You mean so he can protect me if anything bad happens."
"I don't know what you mean." His face went flat.
" Papa, I taught myself about the history of our family. I figured it out when I was in college."
"Then what's some of our history?" I told him everything I just said.
"Papa, I know you're the leader of the Mafia. That's why you never came back."
"Does that scare you figlia?"
"No, because I have you as a dad and I know you can protect me along with Uncle Paul. Especially because you put me close to his room. I know you agree with me."
"I can see you get your inelegance from me."
"I guess so."
"We'll talk more about this later. Why don't you explore your room? I have things to do and calls to make."
"I'll call you or Uncle Paul if I need any help."
"Good, if none of us answer, you know where my office is. Have fun settling in."
"Papa I love you."
"Love you too figlia."
And with that he left my room and closed the door. Maggie was already in her doggy bed and asleep. I hope she gets used to this new house.
