Chris' fingertips move softly against Opal's jaw before the pad of his thumb runs along her lower lip. He keeps his eyes on the actions of his fingers. "I want you, Opal." His words filled with desire, eyes blown with lust.

Opal swallows, hard. Those words stirring a deep warmth within her that she can't deny. This moment becoming more serious than she thinks she's ready for. Her own desires threatening to push the promise she made to herself further away.

Their gaze meets once more as Chris finds his way back to ehr deep brown eyes. "Marry Me, Opal," he says.

Opal answers his words with a soft smile, "I am."

  "Tonight. Marry me, tonight."

Opal's eyes dance between his, back and forth looking for any form of smug joke that he must be hiding behind his words. "What?" she whispers.

Chris releases a sigh, his hands still in place, holding Opal still. "I think you heard me, love."

Her head moves slightly, "I really don't think I did," she admits, thinking she must've imagined this whole scenario in her head. "I think I'm dreaming, Chris."

  Opal POV

That has to be what this is, right? We left the ball with everyone else, went to Decker's, laughed a bit longer, came back to the apartment and passed out from exhaustion. Right?

But, I glance at the clock noticing it's just half past eleven. Closing my eyes, taking a deep breath I can smell the intoxicating aroma of Chris' cologne. But that could just be me laying on the pillow, in his bed, right?

I take inventory of my body, trying desperately to find anything that would assure me that I'm living my wildest dream while still sound asleep. My feet ache from my heels. The feeling of the straps of my dress digging into my shoulders. That's not something I think I'd notice in a dream.

I'm pulled out of myself when I hear Chris speak again, "They say your dreams reveal something deep within your subconscious."

I open my eyes, looking back at him, still believing I'm in a very vivid dream. "Who might 'they' be exactly?" I tease him, still not believing what he said.

Chris rests his forehead against mine. "Say this is a dream, Ope. What would you say?"

"If, " I begin, "if this is a dream, I'll wake up before I ever answer you."

He smirks at me, enjoying our back and forth. So, surely if this wasn't a dream he would be getting agitated by my non answer. Right?

Chris lifts my small hand off of his collar, placing it over his heart. He rests his own over mine firmly. "Feel that?" he asks. I nod slowly, my eyes resting on his hand as I feel the steady heartbeat under  my palm. "If I wasn't one hundred percent sure, it would be racing."

  "This can't be real, Chris."

"Why do you say that?" His eyes dart between my own as both of his hands come to rest against my face.

"We've been engaged all of two weeks. We, we," I begin to stutter over my words trying to keep myself focused, but my mind going fuzzy. "We haven't talked things out yet."

"What is there to talk about, Ope?" I love you. You love me. This is it, I know it. Why not now?"

My  hand still rests against his chest as I notice his heart rate picking up. I run through at least ten different scenarios all while watching the man in front of me confess his desire to marry me tonight.
