23: Intentionally

I sat on the sofa reading a book on water elementals as I waited for Seb to come home. It would be easy for me to escape when both mother and Seb are home.

I looked up to see my mother reading a book while sitting in the armchair. I once again looked at the door before focusing back on my book.

This book was about the history of the water elementals. I opened a random page and read the first line.

It said that water elementals once used to have the power of controlling the temperature of water and make it boiling hot and also make it into ice but as the generation evolved snow elementals were born and they had the power to make ice and snow and slowly the water elementals lost this ability.

There's one more power which is ability to make it rain or hail storm but that too has been lost now.

Throughout the time all the elementals have lost one or the other power. The elemental scientists have yet to discover the cause of this evolution.

"It must have been cool back then" I said to myself.

I turned more pages and stopped when saw the title "Amazing facts about water elementals"

I read the familiar lines which was already taught to us but my eyes stuck to one point

"Water elementals can get hurt by water but there is an exception.
They can never drown in water unless they really give up which is same as committing suicide" I read to myself slowly. I shuddered thinking of drowning. Hope I don't find myself in this situation in future.

"Is something bothering you? " I looked up to see my mother looking at me.

"Yes actually mother I do have something to ask" I kept my book aside and walked towards her.

"What is it?"

"Mother you know that father was a good fighter, he was strong and capable of handling himself then what made you all think that a mere varlet killed him?" I asked, staring at her eyes.

There was no answer from the other side. As expected of her. But I tried to ask her again.

"Tell me? Why do you think it was a mere varlet and not something more dangerous?"

"We have done this before Sapphire. I don't understand why you are bringing this up again. Whatever you are thinking is totally insane and I hope you forget and move on like others" She said calmly and got up. I felt immense anger coursing through my blood.

This is what I hate about everyone around me. They dismiss me as if my opinion doesn't matter at all. I feel like a loser and this makes me wanna hide from the outside world.

"Where are you going mother? Let me complete. So according to you all he was killed by a mere varlet about whom you all didn't even bother to investigate further isn't it?" I asked fuming.

"How pathetic can you be?" I turned around as the front door was slammed hard. Sebastian was standing there glaring at me.

"He wasn't weak Sapphie dear" He mocked as he walked towards us.

"He was strong and he would have defeated the varlet if it wasn't for you" He said, stepping close to me.

"If it weren't for you he would have been here with us" Seb said as he gripped my arm tightly. I winced as I felt the water pressure he was using on me. He will break my arm if he continues this.

"Leave my hand, you are hurting me" I gritted out.

"Even after the warnings you had to be a brat and put us in this misery" He said completely ignoring me.

"Mother, do tell your son to release me," I said, angry at my mother for not intervening. Due to the lack of answer I turned around to see my dearest mother had pulled a Houdini on us.

Feeling a wave of fresh confidence I turned around to see Seb still glaring at me. Rolling my eyes I took hold of his wrist with my other hand and twisted it making sure it felt painful.

Seb gasped as he tried to pull his hand from my grasp.

"Roles have reversed, haven't they? How does it feel brother dear?"

"What is happening with you? What are you doing?" He asked, wincing.

"Oh nothing much, but next time do remember to never touch me or start with your 'you killed our father' bullshit" I said snapping his wrist. He would heal soon anyway.

Seb gasped holding his wrist as I turned around to go upstairs. I passed my mother as she stood at the stairs, her eyes wide, staring at Seb. She called after me but I was already inside my room.

Quickly getting in my room I grabbed my already packed backpack and went out.
No one was present in the living room. I took this chance and walked outside hurriedly only to bump into our housemaid Elisa.

"Where are you going Sapphire?" She asked suspiciously.

"Um.. Somewhere?" I said backing away.

"SAPPHIRE WHERE ARE YOU?" I panicked as I heard my mother's voice.

I started running as Elisa came after me. I turned around and extended my palms.
A huge wall of water stopped Elisa as she bumped into it and fell down. Shocked at my own ability I mouthed her sorry and ran past the gates.

A car was waiting a bit away from my house. Lana waved from the window as I hurriedly opened the door and threw myself in.

"Quick, drive fast before I get caught," I said, tapping her back.

"Why are you behaving like a runaway convict?"

"Because I did something really bad" I said as we were speeding away.

"What?" Lana asked, glancing at me from the rearview mirror.

"I.. Um..snapped Seb's wrist intentionally" I said chuckling nervously.

The car stopped with a screech on the asphalt.
"How is that possible? Isn't the necklace working anymore?" She asked, turning towards me.
I opened my bag and slowly took out the necklace dangling from my fingers.

"I didn't wear it on purpose"

"SAPPHIRE ARE YOU MAD?" Lana shouted.

"You shouldn't remove that necklace at all. Have you forgotten grandma's words already?" She glared at me.

"Well I am sorry and I thought it was necessary at that time. Clearly I didn't think through this" I said wearing it again. I don't regret what I did but I am not going to say it out loud.

"No shit, Sherlock," She said, rolling her eyes. "Now don't dare to put away that necklace again or else help yourself out" Lana said starting the car again.

I just nodded even though she couldn't see me.

"Where are we going though?" I asked looking out of the window.

"We are going to the next town, Soleil , that's where Emmett lives," Lana answered.

"It's about a two hours drive isn't it?" I asked yawning.

"Yeah, you can go to sleep, I will wake you up when we reach" Lana said but my eyes were already drooping.

I faced sidewards watching the sun set slowly. I feel as if finding Derek won't be easy but let's hope for the best.
