“About you Sapphire” Charlotte smiled as she walked towards us.
“We need to go Saph” Zoe said as she attempted to drag me away only to be stopped by Charlotte.
“Isn’t it better to hear those nasty rumours from me rather than others?” Charlotte grinned.
“Fine” I said. Better get over with this.
“That was easy,” Charlotte chuckled as she took my hand in hers.
“People out there are saying that you are turning into a varlet, according to them the girl who can’t even use basic powers is now breaking his brother’s wrist! Isn’t it hilarious?” she said patting my hands.
I looked down holding back my tears.
“A piece of advice Sapphire, just because your father was killed by a varlet doesn’t mean that you will conspire and become one of them. You know even the king and the queen are upset with you” She went on.
I remember Lavia said that the king and the queen were suspicious of me.
“You should think about your late father who died an honourable death….”
“Unlike your father, isn’t it? So better shut your trap” Zoe interrupted. Charlotte’s expression didn’t change.
“Sure Zoe” she smirked before walking away.
“Let’s go,” Zoe said dragging me with her.
“What was that about?’’ I asked as Zoe closed the door behind us.
“And why is your room in mess?’’ I asked, looking around.
Her bed wasn’t made up, the sheets were on the floor and the sofa was stacked with tons of clothes.
“I was packing?’’ She said quickly picking up the sheets.
“What?’’
‘’I wanted to run away” Zoe said as she sat down on the floor and started sobbing.
“Zoe what is it? Why are you crying? What the hell happened?’’ I asked kneeling down beside her.
‘’How are you okay? Why the hell are you even here?’’ Zoe shouted at me, making me flinch. I was dumbstruck.
“Stay away from my family, stay away from my brother” Zoe wailed.
‘’You’re scaring me Zoe’’ I said tearing up.
‘’My family is rotten Sapphire; this whole place is rotten’’
“How so?’’ I asked as I quickly filled the empty glass and made her drink.
Gulping down the water Zoe took some deep breaths before talking to me.
“I heard my mother and father; they were discussing you with Charlotte...”
“With Charlotte you say?” I asked confused.
“Yes, Charlotte is the one who started these rumours and she is convincing my parents that you are turning into a varlet.
I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know what to think about this. I thought the queen trusted me? Lavia already warned me about this but it still hurts.
“When did you hear this?”
“Last night, they were huddled up in Zion’s room. I wasn’t allowed so I hung outside the window and listened quietly” Zoe said wiping her cheeks.
“You could’ve been hurt Zoe” I exclaimed.
“Don’t worry I trust my power but that’s not important, Sapphire you need to stay away from Zion” she said.
