24: Alive and Kicking?

I stepped back as the man before me went still. His hair was matted with blood, his mouth open wide with eyes which had started losing its light. My eyes went towards the gaping hole in his chest.

Before I can understand anything he fell down with a thud which made me step back more. I could feel my legs trembling. My hands instinctively went to the pendant dangling around my neck. But the mere touch of the ruby stone burnt my palms. I hissed in pain as I examined my palms.

Suddenly my neck felt like it was burning. I looked down to see the pendant glowing with blood dripping from it. I tried to remove it hastily but the more I tugged it the deeper it started embedding on my skin.

"SAPPHIRE!"

My head bumped harshly with something as I looked around groggily. Thankfully I was still in the car and was having one of my wonderful nightmares.

"Rise and shine Hart" Emmett greeted from the driver seat.

"Now wake up we are here" Lana said, turning back to face me.

"Where are we again?"

"Vetiti land" Emmett answered.

"And where is that?" I was confused. Clearly I haven't been informed of the places we will be adventuring today.

"It's a no man's land present at the outskirts of Soleil. According to Emmett here this is the place inhabited by varlets illegally" Lana answered.

"But why are we searching for Derek among the varlets"

"Do the math Sapphire!! Two plus two is equal to Derek is a varlet now" Lana said sarcasm dripping from her tone.

My breath hitched as I looked outside the window.

"And this vetiti land happens to be a forest?" I asked, pointing towards the looming forest.

"Well after crossing the forest there's a small colony which is set up illegally of course" Emmett answered as he got out with Lana following the suit.
I unlocked the door and got out too.

"I wonder why the King never thought of eradicating this place," Lana said.

"Well no one wants to start unnecessary chaos.. The king.. How shall I say this? Only attack when any varlet attacks first" Emmett answered.

"That's kind of stupid considering varlets wouldn't stop attacking" Lana huffed.

"Lana I don't think we should discuss this" I said looking around.

"Yeah whatever"

"Listen, we will not carry any heavy luggage. Take a small sling bag with only minimum necessities. We need to move fast" Emmett said.

After packing the sling bag we went towards the entrance of the forest.

"What about the car? What if someone sees it" Lana asked.

"My friend will take it away, don't worry about it and come here both of you"

We stepped forward as Emmett started chanting something. He took hold of our hand tightly. I felt a tingling sensation until it stopped.

"You made us invisible!! That's so cool!!" Lana gasped as Emmett smirked.

"You didn't know how to?" I was surprised as Lana seemed to be so good at everything.

"Stupid this is a no man's land. Invisibility, telepathy, teleportation none of those magia will work here" Lana said.

"Then how?" We both turned towards Emmett.
