I sat on the bed staring off into space. I had hopes, high hopes that maybe after finding Derek I could make everyone believe that father was indeed killed by the blood elemental king. But not only he lied about it but he also blamed me for father's death. This situation makes me doubt myself. Maybe….just maybe I really am responsible for this.

'No you aren't, you are more powerful than you think Sapphire, you just need to embrace your powers, embrace this side of yours

I froze as I heard the same voice in my head which I heard in the forest. I quickly enter the bathroom and wash my face and slap my cheeks to keep myself awake. I don't want to lose control of my body like before.

This is all because of that man. I won't rest until I know the truth. Making up my mind I stepped out of my room. I slowed down as I saw a sleeping Lana on the couch.

With quick but soft steps I reached into the kitchen and pulled out a knife from the knife stand. This is only to scare him.

Opening the door I entered and left the door ajar. Derek wasn't asleep, he was staring at the ceiling.

"You are lying aren't you?" I asked as I sat down on the chair beside the bed. Derek didn't acknowledge me.

"You can tell the truth now, we are alone here" I said thinking that maybe he didn't want to be honest in front of others.

"You are a murderer and that's the truth" Derek said turning his head towards me.

"How? How am I murderer? Only because I didn't obey you all? Because I came out of the house?" I asked, my eyes blurry with tears. To my surprise he bursted out laughing.

"You are so unbelievably stupid Sapphire" Derek said as his laugh turned into coughing.

"What do you mean?"

"That varlet wasn't there to kill your father. He was there to take you" Derek said.

"Why?"

"To take you under his wing, to make you his ally, to make you a varlet" He sneered.

"Why?" My voice came out as a whisper.

"I don't know," He said nonchalantly.

"You're lying, you're bloody lying" I said standing up from the chair. I kicked the chair aside and leaned forward with my knife on his neck.

"Why are you lying? You clearly know that was a blood elemental king, no varlet has eyes like those, no varlet can kill a trained elemental with powers like my father's" I gritted.

"Oh but he died, even I couldn't believe it but it's true, accept it Sapphire your father did die by the hands of a powerful varlet. And you are turning into a varlet too" He said, making me falter.

"I..I am not" I said, my voice cracking.

"You don't believe me? Then ask yourself, who else knows you better than yourself" He said, making me rethink my words.

So all this time everything happening to me is actually because I am turning into a varlet? I started to feel suffocated. This cannot happen to me. Will I be ousted? Will I die?

"Shut up I still don't believe your lying self. You are a coward who should have died back then" I whisper shouted pointing the knife at him again.

"Sapphire! Leave that knife"

Before I knew it the knife was snatched from my hands and I landed on the ground outside the cottage.

"What the hell were you doing?" Lana said as she helped me up from the ground.
