"Of course, it's your room," he said, mirroring your soft smile.
You glanced down at what seemed to be a staircase and carefully took a step. And another. And another. Soon, you were greeted by an amazing view.
You were standing in a corner of a cozy room, on the opposite wall from you was a big window which showed the front yard of the Madrigals. You guessed it would just show outside, because, well, it's a suitcase.
Next to the window on the left side, there was a four-poster bed. At the end of the bed was a dresser. The next thing that caught your attention were the walls which were painted a royal blue and the ceiling which was painted with a moon and yellow twinkly stars while on the walls, there were yellow sparkly butterflies flying towards the night sky.
Under the window was a big desk with a bunch of pencils, pens, quills and papers. On the left side of the window was a wardrobe. And near the right wall was only one thing - a stand with a book on it. A huge book at that.
After a few seconds of taking in your room, you peaked out of your suitcase again, a huge smile on your face. "Come on, everybody! It's awesome!"
The first to wake from the daze was Aiden who quickly rushed to you and tumbled down the stairs, looking with wonder at everything in the room. "It's so big!" he gushed, running his hand along the wall.
"Yeah," you chuckled, looking at the ceiling which meant you weren't looking at the stairs. Which meant you tumbled. Which meant you fell.
You swore your life was over the moment it started getting interesting but no. You fell on a pile of... pillows?
"Are you okay?" your mother asked, looking down from the stairs.
"Yeah, but, how'd the pillows get here?" you wondered, pulling yourself up.
"What's this?!" Rose yelled from the other side of the room, trying to pry open the book.
"I don't know, Rosy," you laughed, going over to her and picking her up so she could see the huge book better. "But we'll see."
The book opened easily to you but... "It's empty?!" you asked with disappointment. "Ugh, I wished it would be any book! Like Narnia maybe!"
"But, Y/n," your mother said, pointing behind you as soon as you turned around.
"What?" you snapped. There were no books in your room except for one that was empty. You had the right to be mad.
"Look," Lily gasped, pointing at the book.
"It's empty, I know," you groaned but still turned around. It wasn't empty - words were appearing on the pages. "Oh..." you said, your eyes going wide.
Camilo gasped, jumping from his place excitedly, rushing to your side. "Maybe it changes into what you want."
You gasped too, looking at him wide-eyed. "Tell me a book!"
"Wizard- Wizard-"
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!" you exclaimed, the book text starting to change right away. You looked at it with a beaming smile before turning around and going straight to give your parents a hug. "It's awesome."
Your mother pat your head. "We're proud of you," your father said before letting you go. "Go, have fun. We'll talk to the other grown-ups."
You nodded and eagerly walked over to where the other kids had settled down. Ethan was looking around, a frown on his face. "What's wrong?" you asked.
"Well, I think your room isn't that great," he said bluntly. "I mean, it's magic- Why can't you like- live in a full palace or something?"
"Aww, would you want my room to be a ballroom?" you teased, leaning lower in front of him.
But he fell quiet, staring around again. The others had fallen quiet too. "Holy wow," you gasped while you realized what they saw - it had indeed changed into a ballroom. "Uhh, room? Change back, please?" In a moment, the ballroom was gone. But it didn't shift like Camilo's room did, but rather, it melted.
"Okay, dinner time!" Julieta announced.
The others were quick to tune onto the frequency of food but you were staring around your room. A bit disappointed, in a way.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Camilo asked, nudging you towards the stairs.
"Is my room my power?" you blurted out.
"I'm sure there's more to it," he assured, stopping as you closed the suitcase. "How about you tell me a short story to cheer up?"
You smiled at him. "Sure-"
"Don't worry, I come prepared. New room, first time and feelings. In first person, use your own name," he grinned cheekily.
You furrowed your brows. "You're just trying to get me to talk about my feelings, aren't you?"
"Is it working?" he asked.
"Shouldn't we be helping in the kitchen?" you changed the topic.
"No, she has more than enough helpers already. Don't change the topic," he said, nudging you to go and sit down on a bench. "Is it working?"
You hid a smile. "Maybe... So... Uhh... I don't know how to start, it's hard to talk about myself."
He gave you a side hug. "Spit out the words and I'll form sentences." His sentence made your heart warm - he was a true friend. Although sometimes you wished it was something more-
You quickly shooed those thoughts away, smiling softly. "It was amazing... Well, up until the point when I fell off the staircase and I thought I was going to get hurt. So my only wish was that the landing would be so...ft." Your eyes widened.
"Is something the matter, Mi Florita?" he asked worriedly.
But you were in too much of an astonishment with yourself to pay attention to what he called you. "I think- I think I made the pillows!"
"What?" he asked.
"I made the pillows! That's my power! To make things with my mind! And it also associates with the symbol, I mean, it will help me to tell the stories better, right-"
He took your hands, looking into your eyes. "I'm happy for you."
You hugged him. "I'm happy too," you muttered into his shoulder. As you two sat there like that, you could feel something warm start to surround your hands so you pulled back, seeing what it was.
"Woah," Camilo gasped, seeing the golden glow. "I think yours also acts on emotions."
"I think it does," you chuckled before throwing your hands towards the sky where a few fireworks exploded.
Camilo stared at your smiling face, feeling something tug on his heartstrings. Then he realized. He was in love. And he couldn't be happier.
