"Yeah, probably," you agreed with a grin. Just like that, your bad mood was gone.

"Salud! To our new family members!"

"Salud!"

"It's very nice of you to be welcoming us like that," you said, smiling at the family.

"Of course!" Alma beamed back. "Especially if you decide to mar-"

"I think that's enough, Mamá," Pepa cut her mother off. "Y/n, would you please pass me the salt."

"Theeere you go," you said, handing it to her with a smile, emphasizing the 'e' to make the sentence longer so you could end it when the salt has arrived.

"Thank you," she nodded.

As you ate and listened to the chatter around you, your eyes caught Camilo's. That's a beautiful eye color. If I think about it, his freckles also suit him- Wait what?

"Hey!" he whisper-shouted. "Is there something on my face?"

"Nah," you shrugged. "But you have beautiful eyes, y'know that?"

"Wh- where'd that come from?" he stuttered.

"Felt like saying it," you shrugged again. "Can you pass me some bread?"

"Su- sure."

"Thank you."

Dolores eyed the interaction suspiciously. "Hey, Y/n, have you ever liked someone?" she asked suddenly.

You almost choked on your food. "No. Not anyone real anyway," you said with a careless tone. "What about it?"

"Just wondering," she smiled innocently.

"No one... real?" Juileta questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"There are those things called book characters," you said matter-of-factly with a happy, borderline mischievous, grin.

It went silent for a second before everyone laughed. You joined them. Honestly, it felt more homey than you expected. Of course, you had eaten at the Madrigals' before but then it was always with your family. Now that they were missing, you expected to feel more... like they were missing.
